So, we have a 2 fold problem.  White kitty is pissing off Lily.  On the other hand, it's made her more prone to be upstairs "guarding" her house, and much more tolerant of me in the times immediately after a spotting.   

Mystery nocturnal animal upsetting Indy. 

Between the two, sleep is not being a friend. 

Well.  Kinda sorta got a look at what's driving Indy bonkers this morning. 

Anyone know what eyes shine red? 

I know it rules out raccoon and most dogs and cats (with some exception for a rareish blue eyed species). 
I can rule out owls as this is definitely quadruped. 

I think that leaves us fox or small coyote.  Of which, considering how it wasn't totally petrified and fleeing, coyote that's been fed by people is the more likely candidate.

This cites foxes, rabbits, and some owls as having red eye shine at night. But that's in PA. Your mileage may vary.

Report from the day.

Mystery cat eyeshine is blue/green.  Not the red culprit. 

It has run off  or eaten my burrowing owl and taken over residence or at least spending a great deal of time and guarding the area near where the owl's uh...den? was.  Back behind my shed.  He's (guessing at sex, haven't gotten close enough) actively pestering my cats, hissing and provoking them at the door and window.  Has been fed, but doesn't appear to be getting regular food, but can't be sure. 

Decent chance the other (more intermittent) problem is related to his presence.  Coyote looking for a meal (mixed reports on coyote eye shine = red). 

I'm not opposed to cats in the yard, but this one's gone territorial.  Typical male feral activity. 

I begun passive deterrent today, disrupting his area with both noise and scent.  I figure construction will provide more deterrent.

Capture/relocate is on the table if I need to get more aggressive.

No mystery cat last night, not at his post this morning.  We'll be manually disrupting his comfort this evening.  Hopefully that'll be enough.

Should work - I've been studying how little cats like disruption; they're almost as touchy about it as I am.

Mystery cat come back around 3 pm, I think he was fleeing a neighbors' sprinkler. (been using Mother as a ladder)  I hosed him myself for his trouble.   No sign since, but a black cat was seen this evening.  Something mystery would not tolerate. 

As tradition, the kids and I are sleeping outside tonight.  So, I doubt he'll be bugging our cats tonight.

3 weeks before the builder can start now, because the banking portion took so long. 

Meanwhile, the Halloween in summer fest is a week from Saturday.  I'm going to see if I can't get something ready.  That'll kill 2 weeks.

How do we fix the one area that really needs it on the mask?


Designed purposely that the mouth area would be glued right into my goatee.  That's going to be miserable in the summer heat rather than just annoying on Halloween.  Not to mention it's messy to apply, which is not going to happen in the car. 

Stripping the Spanish moss in favor of something else IS on the table as well.  Something that doesn't shed so bad.

Obviously, more cloth closing the open part w/ more moss to conceal (or whatever you settle on - some cloth leaves layered could be made to work, or more of the fake ones like higher up) would be convenient for dressing in the parking lot.  -You can take trying to pretend a costume isn't a costume too far - it's going to be lighting and conditions you have little say over however you slice it.

2 craft stores lack what I need for the costume.  One more to try.  Might not be possible in the given time.

The leaves already in place in the pic above - those are those thin fabric leaves one sometimes sees on better-quality fake plants and place settings?  You could do more with those if you had the leaves.

I wonder how feasible turning some dead-leaf brown would be?

3rd store says they have my suit stuff if the online is accurate. 

Hitting the wayback machine, same stuff I made ye olde Zulu styled leg...doodads for the witchdoctor. 

Should be able to get the suit illusion with much less weight than a 'real' ghillie suit with that stuff. 



Toying with the idea of using it for hair on the mask, but I have mixed feelings.  They don't use the same exact stuff anymore, so want to see it on the suit first.
