All of the hay rides I've ever seen were pulled by tractors, which puts the top speed in the 18- 25 mph range at best. Mostly 20 top speed. That makes sense when people that aren't secured. Probably no more dangerous than riding a bike without a helmet. Less so, because the tractor and wagon are a lot more visible than a bike, and the tractor is in front in the event of a head on collision.

I suspect the jeep was going too fast.

You have farther to fall off the wagon than a bike.

Washington man killed by bus at Idaho corn maze
Associated Press

HAUSER, Idaho (AP) — A bus carrying paintball players struck and killed a Washington state man inside a zombie attraction at a corn maze in northern Idaho, authorities said Saturday.

Jeremy T. McSpadden Jr., 18, of Spokane Valley, Washington, was a role player in the "Zombie Slayer Paintball Bus" attraction at the Incredible Corn Maze in Hauser on Friday night, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said. Dressed as a zombie, he emerged from his hiding place and ran toward the modified school bus, but he tripped and fell in front of the rear passenger-side tires, witnesses reported.

He was run over and apparently killed instantly. Because of the uneven terrain of the corn maze, the bus frequently rocks, and the occupants did not immediately notice what had happened, investigators said.

"It was not until the bus had traveled away from the victim's location and the role players began to reset for the next bus to come along that anyone realized something was wrong," the sheriff's office said in a news release.

The attraction is new this season, according to the corn maze's website. For $15, customers ride the bus, which has paintball guns mounted outside the windows, and shoot at the zombies as the vehicle drives through the corn maze.

The bus was going forward, and neither speed nor alcohol was a factor, Sgt. Ward Crawford said.

"The focus of the attraction is the bus creeps forward so the customers have plenty of opportunity to blast away at the zombies," Crawford said. "This looks like it was just a horrific confluence of events."

A recording on the corn maze's information line Saturday morning said, "We are sad to announce that all of the attractions, including the free drive-in movie, will be canceled for the remainder of the weekend."

A message left seeking further comment was not immediately returned.

Hauser is near the Washington border east of Spokane.

Been waiting for the injuries to roll in from these things.  All sorts of bad ideas rolling together into a feast of idiocy.

The "xtreme" haunted houses are begging for lawsuits as well.  The ones where actors can touch is bad enough, but the new 'xtreme' ones where they can actually physically restrain you from exiting, and drag you back in if you do leave is just the highest form of idiocy I've come across.

Injuries and Lawsuits coming, mark my words.

With Halloween right around the corner, many people may look to haunted houses for a frightfully good time. However, some are left wondering if a few “haunted houses” are taking it too far. McKamey Manor, which is billed as one of the “most extreme” haunted houses in the United States, has a waiting list of over 17,000 people who are hoping to have a chance of entering what is best described as “living a horror movie.”

McKamey Manor has been featured on Travel Channel’s Making Monsters and Halloween’s Craziest due to its unconventional nature. All participants must be 21 years of age or older to enter the manor, and they must sign a waiver releasing McKamey Manor from all liability. Participants are screened physically and mentally before they enter the attraction, but many of the tours are cut short due to medical reasons.

The attraction is not typical. In fact, it teeters on the border of legality in many people’s eyes. Is it okay to mentally and even physically abuse individuals if they sign a waiver? Is there a limit to what should be legally acceptable? In the video, we see a watered down version of what happens in the McKamey Manor. Frequently people can be seen being held against their will, hit, punched, bound, and gagged. The “experience,” unlike standard 20 to 30 minute spook houses, can last anywhere from four to six hours. To make the experience even more unnerving, individuals must go through whole ordeal alone or with one other person. Groups larger than two are not allowed.

You heard me correctly, the McKamey Manor “haunted house” experience lasts around four hours for each participant, and they must do it alone or with one other person. The experience is described as both mentally and physically exhausting. Though the house already had a low “success” rate — that is, the number of people able to complete the entire experience — the owners decided to up the ante and do an “experiment” to see exactly how much a participant could handle. Sadly for the first few groups, it appears the experience was too intense. Not a single group was able to make it through the entire journey without quitting.

2014 MCKAMEY MANOR Survivors and Quitters

(ACT 5) MCKAMEY MANOR 2012

McKamey Manor My Experience| BabyyGabss

At the end of the “experience,” you can see participants are physically injured with numerous scraps, cuts, and bruises. Participants can also be seen shivering and in “shock” from the whole ordeal. This has left many wondering why anyone would knowingly put themselves through this and how exactly it is legal? Is this a good way for people to confront their fears, or is this a sick person who gets kicks out of torturing people who has found a legal loophole to do so?

McKamey Manor isn’t the only one jumping on the “extreme” haunted house bandwagon either. BlackOut in New York is known for its extreme measures to bring fear to those entering. In fact, some of the actions borderline sexual assault. In past years, patrons have ended up half-naked, bound, and gagged, standing opposite a highway in full view of the world. There is even a safety word for those who can’t take it and want out, according to Fox News.

If you are looking for a less extreme scare, try walking through the streets of Wasco, California, at night. Terrifying clowns are roaming the cities streets at night with balloons.

What do you think? Would you enter the McKamey Manor?

Not my idea of fun. It sounds like a future episode of CSI Las Vegas or Criminal Minds.

MECHANIC FALLS, Maine (AP) — A Halloween-themed hayride loaded with passengers crashed down a hill in the Maine woods and slammed into a tree, fatally injuring a teenage girl and leaving more than 20 other people hurt, police said Sunday.

Seventeen-year-old Cassidy Charette of Oakland died from her injuries after the Gauntlet Haunted Night Ride wagon overturned Saturday night at a rural farm in Mechanic Falls, authorities said.

The crash "threw everyone off the trailer and into each other and into trees," said Sgt. Joel Davis of the state fire marshal's office. He said a mechanical problem prevented the SUV pulling the wagon from stopping.

Several actors participating in the ride's scenes assisted the injured riders — including some performing CPR — and likely helped prevent the accident from being even worse, Davis said.

About a half-dozen of those hurt remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon but their injuries did not appear life-threatening, Davis said.

Charette was among a group of friends who visit Harvest Hills Farm every fall, Davis said. One of her fellow students at Messalonskee High School, 16-year-old Connor Garland of Belgrade, was being treated at Boston Children's Hospital, state police spokesman Steve McCausland said.

Oakland resident Kathy Mathieu, whose son Zachary is a close friend of Connor, said Charette and Connor attended the school's homecoming celebration together last week. She said the community is planning a fundraiser for Charette's family.

"Everybody is doing everything they can to help this family," Mathieu said. "There are no words to express the sorrow for the parents."

Charette was a member of the school's girls' soccer team and scored goals in recent games, according to results in local media. Garland was a member of the Central Maine Owls, a 15-and-under baseball team that won the state championship this year, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Messalonskee Principal Jon Moody sent a statement to the school community saying grief counselors will be available at the school this week.

The hay wagon was being pulled by a 1979 Jeep when it crashed, according to the fire marshal's office. The driver, identified by police as David Brown, 54, of South Paris, was among those hospitalized. Brown is an experienced trucker who has a commercial driver's license, according to a spokesman for the farm.

The sprawling New England farm is set on a forested hill in a rural area about 25 miles southwest of Augusta, set back from a two-lane road. A 10-foot, caged monster statue stands at the entrance to the haunted attraction. The farm also features Pumpkin Land — a daytime attraction.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the family," farm spokesman Scott Lansley said. "We're a tight community. This is really a tragedy for us."

Lansley said the tour's narrator was among the other 19 people authorities said were injured.

The owners have been hosting the haunted ride for about five years without incident, Lansley said. He said Saturday night was a busy night for the ride, with more than 500 patrons. The entire park was evacuated after the crash, he said.

State fire marshals inspect and license mechanical amusement rides in Maine, but hayrides do not require such licensing.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing and results will be forward to the district attorney to determine if there is criminal liability, Davis said.

Ye local missionaries were doing a costume donation drive.  Since I'm the Halloween nut, it was an opportunity to reach out to me, specifically.

Religion aside, I was a dirt poor kid who's parents hated Halloween partly due to the cost.  Got started on the theatrical makeup myself at 8.  So, I'm donating 4 theatrical makeup kits and doing a class on how to use them at the big event for folks to get their stuff tomorrow.  Any other year I might have done more kits...  Maybe they will make this an annual thing.
