Missed the peak of the eclipse.  Wouldn't have been a good picture taking night anyway.

So...

This is SUPER early for me to be setting up, but with the present schedule, I'm basically relegated to the next couple Saturdays and that's it.

All corn (or similar) I have is being set aside for the new corn tunnel, this  leaves me with something of a problem out front.  Namely, it's completely barren.

Enter an old idea from 2010.  "The Orchard".

Back then, things were...well, they were too green.  Trimmed early september, I thought they would drop their leaves and look all skeletal.  Didn't...

Well, I'm still not sold on the idea, but at least it IS an idea, and gives me a chance to move some pumpkins up off the ground at the carving party.  I think it will play well once we get some pumpkins and the bridge out there with it.

Have a bunch more to do, but need to cut up some more rebar and my saw broke.

So, closest thing we could find in a dress.  Horns painted finally.

I was thinking of sewing the end of the cape to the dress...but then wondered if that would be annoying in school.

Oh, and "look at the camera" is obviously code for "look at yourself in the mirror".

MECHANIC FALLS, Maine —The Maine Fire Marshal's Office says one person has died after Saturday night's hayride accident involving the Gauntlet Haunted Night Ride at Harvest Hill Farms in Mechanic Falls.

The Fire Marshal's Office said Sunday morning that a 17-year-old girl died overnight.

Twenty-two others were injured. The most seriously injured are a teenage boy and the driver of the Jeep towing the wagon for the hayride. The boy has been transferred from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston to a Boston hospital.

Investigators said the Jeep lost control at about 9 p.m., careened down a hill, hit a tree and overturned.

Eleven people were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Seven people were taken to St. Mary's hospital in Lewiston. One person was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to a news release Sunday morning.

Investigators said a mechanical problem with the Jeep may have caused the driver to lose control.

The Fire Marshal's Office licenses mechanical amusement rides in Maine; however, the hayride did not require one.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families,” said John Wallace, a spokesman for the farm.

Wallace said the hayride is a separate business on the property. The ride opened on Oct. 3.

Pumpkin Land and all events at Harvest Hill Farms will be closed Sunday.

Washington man killed by bus at Idaho corn maze

Washington man killed by bus at Idaho corn maze
Associated Press

HAUSER, Idaho (AP) — A bus carrying paintball players struck and killed a Washington state man inside a zombie attraction at a corn maze in northern Idaho, authorities said Saturday.

Jeremy T. McSpadden Jr., 18, of Spokane Valley, Washington, was a role player in the "Zombie Slayer Paintball Bus" attraction at the Incredible Corn Maze in Hauser on Friday night, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said. Dressed as a zombie, he emerged from his hiding place and ran toward the modified school bus, but he tripped and fell in front of the rear passenger-side tires, witnesses reported.

He was run over and apparently killed instantly. Because of the uneven terrain of the corn maze, the bus frequently rocks, and the occupants did not immediately notice what had happened, investigators said.

"It was not until the bus had traveled away from the victim's location and the role players began to reset for the next bus to come along that anyone realized something was wrong," the sheriff's office said in a news release.

The attraction is new this season, according to the corn maze's website. For $15, customers ride the bus, which has paintball guns mounted outside the windows, and shoot at the zombies as the vehicle drives through the corn maze.

The bus was going forward, and neither speed nor alcohol was a factor, Sgt. Ward Crawford said.

"The focus of the attraction is the bus creeps forward so the customers have plenty of opportunity to blast away at the zombies," Crawford said. "This looks like it was just a horrific confluence of events."

A recording on the corn maze's information line Saturday morning said, "We are sad to announce that all of the attractions, including the free drive-in movie, will be canceled for the remainder of the weekend."

A message left seeking further comment was not immediately returned.

Hauser is near the Washington border east of Spokane.

All of the hay rides I've ever seen were pulled by tractors, which puts the top speed in the 18- 25 mph range at best. Mostly 20 top speed. That makes sense when people that aren't secured. Probably no more dangerous than riding a bike without a helmet. Less so, because the tractor and wagon are a lot more visible than a bike, and the tractor is in front in the event of a head on collision.

I suspect the jeep was going too fast.

Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendent, and to embrace them is to achieve enlightenment.
