Baby abandonment happens.

Our zoo has( or had?)  a grandma orangutan for such primate emergencies. I guess she convinced the keepers to let her give bottle feeding  a try by gesturing once upon a time. She has all kinds of time and she's a great groomer and socializer, too.

The silverback gorilla had some noteworthy behavior, also. He was in the habit of leaving his enclosure by way of the door every night, and then the keepers would tranq him every morning.  Eventually they discovered a piece of wire hidden in his mouth which he used to pick the lock. He never made it out of the building.  I often wonder if he liked getting the drugs...

I  bet the silverback just liked the feel of sun on him in the morning after getting tranqed.

He may have been trying to pick the next lock, or maybe he wanted to walk up to the bonobos every night and say "Who's stupid now? Wanna come up to the bars  and say that again? I didn't think so!! "

Been puttering around the yard.  I'm not going to have my week off to do the yard, so doing what we can now.  Gotta get some pics. 

Nothin fancy since weather and all.  got the frame of the corn tunnel up, and am using a good ravengrass harvest to help define it, that stuff is practically bamboo strength anyway, so I just drove all of it into the ground as extra support, and tied the arches all down the tunnel like I do on the fence. 

Our tall corn, the only thing I have tall enough to support the stalks while they dry is Fred, so he's out front with a buncha corn as well. 

Debating when I should throw the bridge down.

we'll have to be frugal with the tall corn and spread it out down the tunnel, not a great corn harvest year. 



So, the corn tunnel features 3 times the metal posts this year, and the raven grass interspersed as well, building it to survive some weather when it comes, don't want to worry so about it getting destroyed like last year.




The side benefit of the raven grass adding an illusion of a roof from the forced perspective of the entry. 




Of course, all the corn going into the tunnel means the front yard is going to be somewhat barren.  Have an idea to revisit an idea that was very poorly realized in the past to deal with that.
