So, I ran into a predicament this weekend.  We fixed the filter no problem, and the water cycle began just fine.  I'd cleaned and boiled most the stuff going back in since we didn't know what all had gotten into it in the few months it's been drying out, so we're starting NEW.  That mean as soon as the chlorine cycled Saturday I really needed to get some fish into the tank to begin the ammonia cycle. 

The plan was simple:  Get a couple pictus catfish.  They were planned to be my cleaners anyway.  Should be readily available being a staple and all.



So, Petsmart lists store stock online.  I simply find one close that has some in stock and make Alec drive me out there.  There seem to be 2 kinds of petsmarts now.  "Mini' stores, and regular stores.  The Regular stores I know of near are Riverdale and Layton.  The former has destroyed their fish section with poor care.  The latter moved recently, but used to have the best section around. 

This one was a little further out and turned out to be a mini store.  There was about 12 aquariums with 3 dividers each.  And while the pictus were there and appeared healthy, 2 dividers down had fish clearly suffering from swim bladder issues.  Risking parasitic infection (though more likely just overfeeding) was not the way to start my aquarium. 

We checked several PetCo's on the way home and found them all to be completely overrun with glowfish and the spawn that don't have the glow genes. 

hEt wasn't comfortable taking a mail order delivery of live fish without me home, so I was left with this problem that I needed fish, but none of the ones I want to keep are available locally. 

So, I'm the 'proud' owner of some danios at the moment.  If they die, so what.  If they live the future residents will eventually eat them.

How are you planning to anchor the slabs in the ground?  Or are you just going to dig deep enough to make sure that they won't fall if leaned on (or get another one of those wind storms that you had)?

Multiple places do the fountain pillars with just a cut base as well, though I don't think that's a good plan for my situation.

Already paying dividends. 

Some Boeing employees in the building have big mouths, and work had gotten wind that Boeing was looking at me for a position as a result. 

Work fired an opening salvo aimed at getting me to stay today in the form of an 8% raise, along with a grade promotion.

Well, Boeing ended up losing that contract anyway, so another year of dealing with the crap here later.  My 2nd level supervisor is new, and I've had to do a whole heck of a lot of covering for my immediate supervisor's incompetence later, with his royal fumbling of a major project and my salvaging it from the wreckage. 

I don't dare jinx anything, as it won't go into effect til April, but I'm told it's all approved: Another grade promotion, one which enables the possibility of subordinates, and is a rather significant step both in $ and prestige.   

I can do without the latter.

Pretty much. 

Talia is having a ball with the danios at the moment, though, so worth ever penny.  Fast and aggressive eaters, they've already figured out people in the house mean food, not death.  (very timid when first put in).  Not sure if that's a sign of intelligence or lack of memory.
