My idiot boss royally screwed up with a vendor, threatening a corporate account of billions with 30 years history behind it.  He was thus summarily removed from the project and HIS boss put ME in charge of it locally. 

Unfortunately he hasn't tracked the project at all, so I was pretty devoid of info, going into a meeting with my corporate folks from Washington, the Vendor from California, and the Vendor's owners from NY to have a round table on what went wrong.

This is pretty much EXACTLY what I DON'T like to do.  I was hired as an equipment guy.  You don't become an equipment guy to deal with PEOPLE.  That doesn't mean I can't or am not good at it in a pinch, but I really don't like it. 

That said, with the present boss, I'm really regretting not taking his more people oriented position when it was offered.  Wouldn't have been a raise, really, at least no right away, but I'm having to do it anyway from a position without the advantage of proper tracking and being able to get ahead of it.
