Bat wings are basically just hands, which make them really easy to do sculpting wise.  Bird wings are a different story.

That's more along Talia's stated project (she's 9, subject to change, but traditionally sticks to her guns)  She wrote a "Vampire fairy" story, and wants to make the vampire fairy.  Though she's leaning more insect or bat wings so far. 

I'm more just studying the avian structures for how the tissues all connect.  One of the concepts would be potentially doing a scareCROW for the contest. 

However, this is a curious piece:

Interesting how that long tendon provides the wing edge and the tightening and loosening of it acts like the flaps do for slower flight speeds...

And I can have lots of fun with THAT in various states of decay.

With yesterdays storms, we've hit 94% of a years' worth of water stored up in the mountains with big storms today and later in the week, we'll be officially above average for the first time in 10 years, and on pace for winters the likes of which we haven't seen since the 80s.  It would be nice to see the great salt lake make a comeback, but there's likely going to be plenty of flooding as well. 

Edit:  Looking at the record depths, looks like we're generally in the top 5 year to date, hovering at 3rd or 4th most snow water equivalent in 40 years at most locations, with a couples 6ths and 2nds mixed about.  That new roof is getting a workout...though the valleys aren't near the 80s levels yet.

January and in the 50's more than in the teens.  Precip feels about normal (though I haven't checked) just rain instead of snow.

Flipped from a rather heavy snow year from December through January to 50s and rainy in the valleys.  Recipe for flooding later...


Mountain totals have topped 100% now (it's February and we've already had a years worth of precipitation in the mountains with 3 months left in the water cycle), all major tributaries to the great salt lake sit anywhere from 101 to 124%

I like it. A cross between musculature and skeleton. I wish that kind of art could be found a long a trail somewhere and not be stolen or vandalized. Imagine it in the desert, or the shores of the Great Salt Lake.
