Depp got in a rut there where he really couldn't break OUT of his Jack Sparrow routine for a while. 

I had numerous issues with that movie from top to bottom. 

As for Burton.

He's on a one for you, one for me styled situation with the corporate side of things where he makes an intended money maker, ala dark shadows or Miss Peregrines.  It is a big name, all the hallmarks of a burton film, etc.  But you can tell his heart's not really IN those projects.  THEN he's able to make one he WANTS to make, at this time, that was the full length Frankenweenie...which was butchered as well.

He's been doing that ever since he made it big - pretty obvious Batman was for the money, Edward Scissorhands for love.  The difference in sincerity/quality is plain...

It's just --- that was about the last thing I would have expected Burton to just hack out, and the casting hints that he was serious...

So. 

Moved grandma into a nursing home over the weekend. 

She was born in 1917.  Her mind is no longer all there.  Arthritis has crippled her hands to being incapable of finer things like cutting food. 

It's a move that should have happened at least a year ago.  Could have happened 5 years ago. 

Over the last few months, my mom has had hip surgery, and my dad has undergone radiation for the cancer.  Coupled, they've become incapable of caring for grandma at her house.  Mom is not coping well AT ALL.  Her kidney disease and medication for that all on top, and I'm seeing the same signs of her madness from when I was younger for the first time in 20 years. 

So, moving on Friday you have me.  My brother, who was dropped on his head as a baby (really) and is rather OCD, trying to watch his son.  Dad, can't move anything due to being tired and weak from radiation.  Mom, feeling guilty and depressed for moving her mom into the home, in full madness mode.  Grandma, actually rather at peace with the whole thing, but a little confused at times as well. 

We meet at 9, and pack up by 10.  It's a really small move, should be easy........

So, we get to the home and mom goes into full bore madness, covering with OCD since she can't just take it out on anyone physically anymore.  Ok, we need grandma's favorite chair first to make her comfortable.  No problem.   But wait.  We got to get the TV in, and hooked up, and we must finish this whole room including hanging the pictures and decorating.  Meanwhile Kyle's boy touched the phone, so we have to stop and wash his hands.  Then he needs to potty, so wash, go, wash.  And we forgot a picture, so we have to drop everything and to get it, because that's just how it has to be. 

12 handwashes for Austin later.  6 all stops to go back and get something we forgot instead of making a list and getting it all in the end.  2.5 hour hiatus because mom has to rest/eat and heaven forbid we get the rest of the stuff in while she rests.  Simple job turned into all damn day in a hurry. 


AND EVERYONE ELSE IGNORES THE FACT GRANDMA IS STRUGGLING TO GET OUT OF THE CHAIR TO MAKE IT TO THE BATHROOM.  TWICE.  She's not going to ASK, she's too proud for that.  I just go give her a hand without word. 

I could go on about the drama of selecting homes, or the trouble they're now having at this one because you know, heaven forbid they follow our recommendation after hEt's mom and grandpa both had good experiences with the other one.  Or the whole 'she won't eat anything' argument, but I get in trouble for bringing her favorite treats she WILL eat.

I think he seriously underestimated the amount of time Frankenweenie was going to take.  HE DIDN'T DIRECT Nightmare.  He had help with Corpse Bride.  He attempted Frankenweenie on his own.  Stop motion is time intensive.  As a result I think Dark Shadows just got rushed out.

Having a script that is lame to begin with also doesn't help....

At least Burton did not get the one Superman move out of early preproduction, it was shaping up to be a dog...

In other news M Night's new Split looks actually good.  They've relegated him to these low budget films, and he's better for it.  (The Visit was pretty darn good for what it was too)

At least another day of construction coming.  So ready to be done. 

I haven't pictured "the princess suite" (master bed/bath) yet.  I'll try to get some tonight.  It was SUPPOSED to be done Friday so we could move in last weekend.  I hear the tub fixtures are nowhere to be found though, so it won't be finished tonight either. 

Really annoying trying to share the bathroom upstairs at times. 

Lots of little detail work left to do.  I want my shop.  It's still storing garbage, they were supposed to haul it out.  Basement is puttering along at a 'when we can get to it' pace.  Which, admittedly, we were good with when the focus was to finish the upstairs for christmas.  I'm going to have to start getting insistant we just finish up.
