So, finally got into the mummy exhibit:

The crux of the problem revolved around this display ALSO having some pieces on loan in addition to the mummies of the world exhibit.  I had to get permissions from all parties involved to get pics, but in getting those permissions is that I won't go publishing the photos.

So, I got pics, for my research.

hEt commenting on the first full body mummies we come into:

"That could be Trevor sitting there."

Indeed, things I had thought were mistakes/failures with Trevor were actually dead on.  My hands/feet need some work, however.  Especially the feet.

Science wise, there was nothing to learn for me, but hEt didn't know some of the things.

Interesting dichotomy there.  The mummies of the world exhibit presented it's items as-is.  No alterations.  However, one of the families loaning pieces either re-created clothes, or presented their mummies with, um, modesty cloths.  I found it a little silly, but what do you do?

Whilst down in Salt Lake, we visited the Mormon paradise mall known as City Creek.

http://www.shopcitycreekcenter.com/

$1.5 Billion the church spent.  The city using eminent domain to obtain the land to sell to the church.  All to build a shopping mall with church money that is somehow still tax free.

WTF?  How the HELL is this still a charity?  The Church now owns several blocks surrounding the SLC Temple, and this trend will probably continue.

Ostensibly, this mall was built to increase business and revitalize downtown SLC, but they built a nice convenient bridge to carry customers over the couple of stores they were unable to purchase, thus keeping foot traffic from non-church property.

As I was attempting to get to one of these stores, they've made that rather inconvenient as a result.

Alright, I have a problem now.

I'm bored.  The Barghest is done, and the animated fence is mostly tedious work now.  I need a project, any suggestions you'd like to see my styling applied to?

Not a terrible idea, actually, but then I'd have to haul it up to bear lake and scare people.

http://animal.discovery.com/tv-shows/lost-tapes/creatures/bear-lake-monster.htm

Which reminds me, I've been meaning to pull a prank that I need to check the legality of...

We have a portion of the bonneville shoreline trail relatively close.  http://www.bonnevilleshorelinetrail.org/pleasantviewtoi84/pleasantviewtoi84.html#i84

Specifically the I84 trailhead portion.  There's a 2 mile stretch that climbs 300' that is very rarely utilized.  Heavily populated by wildlife, it passes 3...ponds/marshes.  These things look like they come right out of a horror movie.  In fact, in my mind, that's where all the Chimera have come from.  In 2011, we even attempted to get Chimera one back into the first pond for a photo shoot, but some late season flooding prevented it, he's just too big, awkward, and heavy and the 4 wheelers just weren't going to get through.

Since then, I've wanted to build a smaller creature, and have him 'peaking' out from behind a tree on the far side of that pond/marsh.  It would be a bear to get to, and I'm not sure if it's legal to leave behind such a thing.

See where random joke statements take me?

Pond 3 is private property, I might have better luck convincing the owner to allow me to put it up, but it's the most 'clean' of the 3 ponds, thus the least desirable to put a monster.

Sleepy Hollow series upcoming on Fox?

Just saw the trailer...

My god is that going to suck horribly.

As an unabashed headless horseman fan, I'm going to have to watch.

That is the one thing I REALLY want from my childhood that's not to be found.  Early 70's Biestle company Halloween cutouts.  They had a headless horseman that always terrified me.  Him silouhetted up against the moon.  You can find copies of most of their designs still for sale, but not the horseman.

I just got back from a root canal, and Uno, I got bad news - when he finished and all the crap was out of my mouth, I said "Congratulations; that was boring."  Most painless root canal evah.

Still - any inspiration for a project on a dental theme, maybe?

I've never understood the dentist phobia.  I posted the one video a little while back, and have witnessed such a theme utilized a couple times, but it really doesn't speak to me much.

Then, I've had relatively few dental problems.  Wisdom teeth, they put me out, and despite coming out of the drugs early, I was only awake long enough for them to put me back under (both times I've been put under I come out before the operation was done).  Other than that, I had bucket teeth filled as a precaution, just bad taste, nothing scary, and had to have my canine's filed, too young to really know much more about that one/why.

My old dentist was superb, and the guy he chose after he retired is a fan and saves me denture samples for me to use.

No, you want scary, it's the optometrist.  Shoving things into your eyes, that's just wrong.

But anyway, it would be like clowns for me.  Not something I would do for myself, but if you ask me to build you a dentist based room, I've studied it enough to do so.

The ones you typically see take it the wrong direction, IMO.  They have the room and doctor covered in blood wielding rusty old equipment.  This makes it just another room, same old crap.

No, to do a dentist you need it PRISTINE.  Including that medical cleanser SMELL.  WHITE walls/floors/ceiling, dentist chair.  If this is a hands on, you would want to strap someone in, if it's hands off, you want an actor in there, strapped down, especially the head.

Key selling points are going to be the chair, xrays on the walls, including lighted boards, medical models, and possibly jars of teeth, roots and all, in a preserved liquid.  Bright spotlights should be pointed to shine off the nice metal tooling.  Script wise, this would be an excellent room to have a spitter (compressed air and water mist blows on patrons) to correspond with the surgeon pulling out something.  You want his back to the audience, yank a piece out, spit the crowd, and have the doctor turn to reveal him to be something inhuman.

Maybe too much twilight zone "eye of the Beholder" influence there...

Very good thought about the smell.

I suppose drawing up some detailed plans for someone else to use isn't enough of a project?  You've definitely outlined something effective.

smell is one of the things that is generally lacking in most haunts.

The problem is there is not the someone else.  Kinda pointless to design something for a theoretical space.

Could theoretically push up the guardian from next year to THIS year.  But, that's a BIG project and I'd probably have to rush it.

Could do the Ghost of Christmas Future already.  Submitted the idea for approval (because stupid christmas charities have to approve things since someone dared to make a tree out of budweiser cans and kids saw, the horror) and haven't heard back, but I'm sure I could use and/or sell it separately if it's nixed.

The way to go about that would be subtractive sculpture.  Not my preferred method.

Eh.  Square(ish) frame, chicken wire, burlap, monster mud - wadded up anything to fill out the brow, nose, and lips - more burlap and monster mud.  Alternately, round off styrofoam panels and carve one to be the face.  The rest of the head is easy, and you can do some cool things with patterns on the helmet.  The Olmecs had to make the facial features more or less fit the round shape; I've done one in miniature, as you probably recall, and it's not all that tough to get the style.  I would place it where the crowd wouldn't be tempted to poke at it to see how hefty/substantial it is.

The beauty part?  You could hide a lot of stuff inside, from fog machines to a tiny control room...

Much could be done with a whole Mesoamerican theme, and you've certainly been doing the research forever.

Yes, Temple of the Spider Woman WILL rise from the ashes.  I'm just not sure I'm ready just yet.  Still a little stung that I lost what was essentially 5 years work towards that when the shed collapsed.  What was salvaged from that wreckage is on display in an SLC haunt, including the Steve mummies.

I'll probably change the stele design to be similar to Trevor instead of straight paper mache thiI s time.  Would hold up much better to weather.  I think of them every time I go in the shed, as the firebowls are still there.

The 'them' prototype is still in there too.  It is terribad in it's present form, don't think I've ever even fully revealed it, and that's part of the reason for the fence redesign this year, testing/learning for 'them'.  I've already figured out most the bugs and have much lighter construction methods, which would make it potentially doable now.  There's a reason I did a mass purchase of 20 motors this year...

We ran a 5 year course before the theme switch last time, and that's a reasonable timeframe, this being year 3, and year 4 already mostly planned.  Besides I still have a thing or two to say on this whole "Harvest decorating is just boring" sentiment.
