Walking through the wood, coming across a bunch of those.... would definitely freak me out.

I like it. A cross between musculature and skeleton. I wish that kind of art could be found a long a trail somewhere and not be stolen or vandalized. Imagine it in the desert, or the shores of the Great Salt Lake.

There's not a lot of driftwood around the GSL.  In fact, the lake itself won't be around too much longer at the present pace.  I'm interested to see how much impact this winter will have on the lake.

But, anything wood would look unnatural along those shores.  Not even the sage brush gets out there.

Not quite the same level, but same idea.

I guess I had those thoughts about desert and art, because I think of them as being more likely to preserve wood than those creek hollows in the photographs. Less likely to be disturbed, too. Well, I also like Georgia O'Keefe paintings.

Those animal skeletons are cool, too.

Yep, but I expect there is a reason in the few I looked at (top 20 or so pics) that none of them showed the skulls well.

I'm surprised that they didn't try to plant some Sea Oats there...

Highly doubtful that would be successful.

I knew the bridge would eventually get copied and mass marketed, but this is a really good idea/improvement...now, how are they doing it?

How they get it to appear flat is actually a bit of a mystery.  Otherwise, it's just a belt bridge.

https://www.playlsi.com/en/commercial-playground-equipment/playground-components/belt-bridge-123

It's the surprise drop this is going for, which is cheap low-effort crap.

I'd actually argue a proper clatter bridge would be a better commercial alternative aimed at the professional market.  The right setting and that would be awesome.

The bridge of deaths' biggest selling points are LOOKS and FEEL.  You don't need to add surprise elements.  The different FEEL of being on that board walk is difficult to quantify, and a properly built clatter bridge would bring that to a professional haunt.  Especially if over a properly set and staged gap or through a vortex, as they suggested for this bridge.

Wonder if you could get a fire marshal to sign off on the safety of a plank sway bridge over a bottomless pit illusion...

Quick question that came up on the Hooked on Pirates! forum.

Is the Great Salt Lake actually an inland sea?

For the distance traveled in that bridge, it has quite a deep drop.  It looks like 6 boards make up a span.  Each board appears to be a standard 1x6.  So, that is roughly 3 feet.  The drop looks to be about 4 inches for maximum deflection.  I would guess that they are using basically rubber bands based on cost and ease of availability.  Aging would be a serious issue, though.

Actually, at only 3 feet, two other options come easily to mind.  For the deflection they have, they could easily be using a car leaf spring.  And, although I don't believe you would get as much deflection, and it would be a lot more work, they could also be using a recycled tire.  The steel banding inside most tires wouldn't allow for that much deflection though, but would still give a good 'bounce' and would be environmentally friendly.  Would also be in essence a "free" material.

No...it's one of the largest terminal lakes in the world, and I think the highest elevation salt water lake, I seem to remember something about it's elevation being unusual.

That said, lake Bonneville may have been an inland sea?  I'd have to look that up.

Lake Bonneville covered most of the desert around here back in the Pleistocene era.  Clear into Nevada.  GSL is what is left of that.

You have to build the box yourself, which provides the maximum deflection and hides the actual mechanism.

Edit:

Another video.  No, not for me.  My bridge creaks and groans like WOOD.  Not warbles like metal.

Yeah, first thing I noticed about that one video was that it was silent, not even a voice over...

Planet's Primary, Alpha Centauri A, blasts unimaginable quantities of energy into space each instant, and virtually every joule of it is wasted entirely. Incomprehensible riches can be ours if we can but stretch our arms wide enough to dip from this eternal river of wealth.
