Yeah, Tuesday mornings, the big bosses take over the big top, I chose to attend virtually today.  I've gotta go clean up the mess soon, though.  They're stumbling around on things they shouldn't.

Tell me if this sounds familiar:  used to be, every few years Daddy would get extra-cranky for a few weeks because they were trying to promote him to vice president or something - he didn't want to be moved around, he didn't want to be a target of the office politics.  The money would have been great, he kept the oldest factory of a huge graphite corporation more profitable than all the more modern ones through meticulous inventory control, he deserved the promotions and more, but didn't want the grief.  I don't think he was worried about rising to his organizational level of incompetence -the man had an ego the size of Canada- just a rare bit of finding a wise balance on his part...

More like:

Uno convinces Boeing they need a department in charge of this task at Utah.  They finally agree, post application for head of department, award position to Uno, paperwork filled out, week before it officially starts, Uno is transferred to "Boeing Services Company" (a wholly owned subsidiary business) because the new manager of BSC can't be supervisor over his wife.  His wife is thus moved to Boeing proper and given the position formerly awarded to Uno (but without the raise or title) while Uno is put on the BSC 1 year contracts for the next 3 years before they are no longer renewed.

Uno been scrambling to stay employed ever since.

That makes you me instead of my dad.  You'd think a fellow could lose fairly from time to time, but all contests appear to be rigged...

Joe eventually ate frozen last night, but took prodding.

More likely he'll pull through than not at this point.  Whether he survives the move BACK is a good question.

The UV filter finally came, but didn't want to put it if Joe was going to eat in as messing with the tank will upset Joe.  Another cleaning tonight, followed by the filter install is needed.

That filter sat at the Ogden airport for 3 business days before being loaded for delivery.  I'm convinced they purposely sat on it until the last day of it's delivery window to hope you pay for upgraded shipping.

Any ideas about making the move back less stressful?  You've got time to think of something and how to make it work, if there is anything...

Filter cleaned.  UV filter in and working.  Tank cleaned.

I've eaten very poorly today and feel like crap.  Only partially linked, that.

Renfairs.

I've seen you doing birthday party magic for little girls, I know you're a magnificent showman, and I could totally see you working up a little something to do in the lanes fer larfs a few weekends a year.  The money sucks if they're even impressed enough to pay you as a local, so if you cared about making it pay for itself, you'd want to work up something where you get hat privileges.  Something selling some service works; I was a Flatterer after getting my start as a Town Cryer.

It's educational for a showman, which I didn't even know I was before I did it, having to think on your feet as you interact with the audience.  The main thing, though, is that it's a lot of fun - this is why I say renfairs to you.  You're not going to get ambitious about it, being a family man who couldn't go on the road, and that leaves you out of a lot of the cast politics, provided you just be aware that they're a thing and keep your opinions about the authenticity of the show and so on to yourself.

There's one north of SLC and one about the same distance south - they weren't shows anyone I knew did, if they go back to my day, and I don't know if they're one weekend wonders or major seven weekend shows - I didn't do a lot of research, just found two in more-or-less your area.  I think one's in August and the other around Thanksgiving.

Go check one or both out when they're up, and maybe you'll see the possibilities.  Protips from actual pro: to get your money's worth, be there first thing and make a day of it.  There are always a lot of participants whose interests somewhat align with yours -no telling how Utah affects that- so you may not want to buy crafts at the shops, but you'll find endless artistic inspiration shopping.  Food and drinks can be dear at these things, so plan to take a break, especially if Talia is along, at a nearby restaurant sitting down and climate-controlled in the middle of the day, then go back and see more - a heathly renfair is more than you can see everything worth it in a day - vaudeville is alive, and it has a dirt floor. ;nod

Yeah, their advertising sucks as you never hear about them locally unless you travel in the right circle.

The closest things to grab my interest is the Halloween in Summer fest.  http://halloweeninsummerfestival.com/

We made it down last year, and it was both better and worse than I expected.  We didn't accomplish my GOAL of going, by any stretch, and that wasn't a geek show!  Don't promise me a geek show if you're not gonna deliver!

And the Winter Faire:  http://www.utahwinterfaire.com/

Missed it last year, but wanted to go.

I have this urge to really nail down the greenman costume and take it to both.  Just because for the Halloween, but dressing it for 'winter' and going to a Christmas thing just to see reactions sounds fun.

I as there the first time ever Cliff Hanger took out his Treeman thing, 1997 Arizona fair, and the second day I was his helper - some boy he hired didn't show.  It was a stilts costume and he didn't talk, so he needed a little kid herder, mostly -also work gates and act as hazard spotter, a little actual physical support- which was a lot of fun; the little kids were awed by him and I would encourage them to approach -in front where he could see them and not behind where he could step on them- and shake ... his limb or something.  "He's shy - you'll scare him if you sneak up" I would tell them when they tried to go behind.

I heard over the years that Treeman caught on in a big way.  Dunno how Cliff pulled tips doing it, but sounded like it got popular enough he could get the show to pay him large to do it.  -So you're going to get accused some of ripping him off with the greenman costume; he works mostly western fairs...  Not a problem or anything, just some people who travel would say Treeman to you, at least if Cliff's still doing it recently...
