Completely different tone, but the approach reminds me of You Are There with Walter Cronkite, which was on CBS on Sunday mornings late-60s, early 70s.  It was a great show, completely serious and very educational, but interesting IIRC.  You're probably a teeny bit too young to remember it, or never saw it if your family weren't CBS people anyway.

(The kids will never be able to wrap their heads around the way people tended to be total channel partisans before remote controls took over in the 80s.)

It might've been You Were There, if you're interested in looking it up for your kids or something.  I remember Cronkite covering the Trojan War...

Plague Doctor is on my to-do list when I get back on masks someday, probably in the spring; Buster's Aunt wants to do a set of commedia del arte' mask, for which, you'll recall, I intend to use your face for the Captain/braggart warrior character.  You have a wonderful chin.

Too bad he turned over his last professional place (the one I helped out with last Christmas) to a bunch of...well, they're more interested in the business side of things where Max and I were much more about promoting haunts as a means for charity.  The charity first professional haunts are now extinct in Utah.

I guess it's safe to assume that that focus impacts their creative decisions in an unfortunate way.  You seem to interact with enough pro haunts that it's tough to know which one sometimes, not that I kill myself keeping track.

yeah, I bounce around a lot.  I like the design phase, not so much the operation phase, mostly because of the business end of things.  I'm happy to act in one, or do makeup, or maintenance, sure, but the business end of it?  Bleh.

The guy who bought the lab just happens to live by my son's junior high (like right next to the parking lot), so stopped last night after his choir concert.  He's the more normal kind of Halloween buff.  A horder/collector, yard looks like the last 10 seasons of Spirit Halloween puked up on it, and had to listen to all the details politely, smiling saying how great it is.  Yeah, that's 'rare' and that's expensive and wow you got that in a trash can and managed to repair it...this is a big part of the reason I don't go to any of the groups.  (yes there are halloween groups that meet to share whatever crap thet come up with or all build the same exact thing together...why?)  His handfull of original props he'd purchased off other haunters (like myself, builders).  I just couldn't help sitting there thinking what was the point?  Ah well, bless them for clearing up storage of us builders.

Some just don't have to drive to create.  Nothing wrong with that; they are needed to support the artists.

Took a drive down through farm country. 

I realize I really show my agricultural roots.  Most the decor there is more 'fitting' to me, and most houses are decorated.  Sure, the city folks with all their plastic stuff don't like it much, but it's 'right'.

Saw the most amazing thing whilst driving too. 

Some guy selling corn stalks.  Nothing shocking about that, I know.  But, these were 15' TALL CORN STALKS.  MONSTROUS things.  Never seen the likes of it, most tops out at 7' around here.  He says they make monstrous ears of corn, too, but it's no good for eatin', just feed for cattle.  He plants it because of extremely high yield.  Gave me some seed for the spring, but it might be too much for the three sisters planting I was planning to utilize.

Yankees and city people may find farm country amusing and contemptable, but they're jerks and will all die fast when disaster strikes.

I love me some old crumbling barns.  Reminds me of the area my dad grew up in.

No, my little tercel is not fit for driving 15' corn stalks around.  Strapped to the roof, couple red flags at either end, I can see it now...:lol:

Just got off the phone with the local news. 

"But we were told you were one of these Halloween people, when will you have it set up?"

"I won't be set up until 10/30" 

"Well, why not?"

"I don't need to use it until then."
