Jets scrambling to defend a minor unit is a bad deal
« on: March 22, 2013, 06:12:57 pm »
Is there a way to deactivate the automatic scrambling of Jets?

If an opponent sends a Missile Needlejet to attack a ground unit near my base, one of my Missile Interceptors is scrambled. OK, I expect that. But my Interceptor does not benefit from its Air Superiority (SAM) ability.

The combat is resolved as 6 attack vs 6 attack. I guess this follows the rules in datalinks...but shouldn't it be 12 (for the SAM air unit) vs 6 (for the defending air unit)?

If I wait to attack that 6-1-10 Needlejet on the next turn, however, the same combat is resolved as 12 attack vs 1 defense! It's a huge difference.

So unless the threatened ground unit is very valuable, the scrambling of Interceptors is not a good idea.

Is the 12 attack vs 1 defense resolution a bug?

Edit: This is a known issue. Neville's bug list is informative.

We are no longer particularly in the business of writing software to perform specific tasks. We now teach the software how to learn, and in the primary bonding process it molds itself around the task to be performed. The feedback loop never really ends, so a tenth year polysentience can be a priceless jewel or a psychotic wreck, but it is the primary bonding process?the childhood, if you will?that has the most far-reaching repercussions.
