Social Benefits question
« on: November 19, 2012, 10:03:24 pm »
Firstly, hi everyone. I just found this website after reinstalling SMAC and looking for strategy info online. I've found a lot of great info already on this site.

One thing I haven't been able to find (and I hope it's not something that's asked frequently), is whether social benefits give any bonuses/penalties for going beyond the listed numbers in the datalinks. For example, if the datalinks only list benefits for getting Support to +3, is there any benefit for pushing it to +4? I thought I remember Efficiency still doing something beyond its listed max value, and also a bug with pushing Probe too high, but I don't remember particulars or if it works with every category.

Welcome to AC2, Nightgaunt.  We're very glad to have you.

All I know for sure about this is that the probe rating rolls over on you if it gets too high, and I assume the same is true for others.  I'm sure some of our more tech-oriented members will be alnog soon to tell you more.

Howdy Nightgaunt,

See post #4 in this thread. As far as I know, that information is accurate. However, the probe rating bug was was fixed in scient's unofficial patch. You can find it in the Downloads section here. I highly recommend installing it because it fixes many other bugs.

One correction to that post: The effect of Planet rating on psi combat is fully effective at any value, but its effect on ecodamage has no further effect outside [-3,2].
