Getting back in, crash at Planetfall
« on: January 18, 2026, 12:16:17 am »
So, I installed the GOG version on my new Windows 11 PC today...but I'm running into a problem.  Immediately after Planetfalll, the year turns to a nonsensically high number such as 20841603, and then I get a crash to desktop.  Has anyone seen this before?  I have random memory addresses enabled on my PC (one of the optional security settings)...any chance it's that?

I'll be doing more research when I have a chance this weekend, but thought I'd ask first in case someone's seen this before I have a chance to dig into it.  Google's AI answer says the Thinker Mod fixes the bug, but I didn't find anything in a quick scan of Thinker's release notes about it.  (I'd also prefer to keep the base version, warts and all, or perhaps at most install Scient, for the moment.)

Attempts to address:
1) Full reinstall
2) Disable ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm and/or disable DirectDraw
3) Run in normal and Administrator mode

Thanks in advance.

Heh, I figured someone had already dealt with this. I’ll give it a try, thanks!
Are there any notes that specify exactly what this does? And has anyone tested it on older machines to make sure it doesn’t break anything there?

I figured I should pass this along to GOG so they can update their copy.

All I know is that Petek says it works for running on W11...

Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though - it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.
