"Volcano Watch - Tracking the growth of a new pu'u (hill) at Kilaueap"

"Tephra formed by lava fountains during the ongoing Kīlauea summit eruption has created a new puʻu (hill) southwest of Halemaʻumaʻu crater. The new puʻu is visible from the public viewing areas around Kīlauea summit in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) has been busy tracking the continued growth of this young geologic feature."

Early, Willsey points out that third north subvent fountaining straight up, mistaking it for the left vent.

Pity he missed the explosion on V3, which had the only good view...

I sure would like a better look at the south vent than I'm likely to get soon...

This guy mentions the south vent "explosion" around 42s.

"The onset of episode 39 is likely to occur between December 21 and 27." ...

"Glow continued overnight from both vents.  Sustained tremor punctuated by gas pistoning at irregular intervals continues this morning.

Since the end of episode 38, Kīlauea has inflated 13.9 microradians as recorded on the UWD tiltmeter this morning with an increase of 1.9 microradians over yesterday."

From the Sunday update:

"Glow was observed overnight from the north and south vents. Low level tremor has continued over the last 24 hours. The rate of summit inflation decreased in the past 24 hours. Forecast models indicate the onset of episode 39 lava fountaining is likely between December 23 and 27, and most likely between December 23 and 25, based on current rates of summit inflation. The forecast interval may change if the inflation rate varies."

South vent overflow started Tuesday ~1841 local.

[Edit] That stopped (for a bit) and north vent dome fountaining started ~1929. South vent overflowing again ~1931.

Double vent action starting ~2002, getting more serious 10-15 min, and maybe start of the episode in 15-20 min?

The Tuesday night update called the start of the episode 2010 local. By 12/24 ~0200 the north vent had stopped, and by ~0213 the south vent had stopped. So a little over 6 hrs, on the shorter side.
