Can't seem to use any custom content
« on: October 09, 2017, 04:59:58 pm »
Bought the game from GoG as it was one of my fav's when it came out. Using Win 10. Can't seem to get custom maps or races to work even though I added them using facedit and the maps just make it go nowhere if I try to start a new game with any of them it then sulks with no menus visible to select races etc. I have put all the patches on from this site and am using Yitzi's 3.5D patch but I only seem to be able to use default stuff. Any ideas ?

You should be able to select new races or load maps for play.
You sure either of those are in the correct folders?

Yes put the maps in the map folder. With the custom races where should the files go ? I read on another site that the pcx files should go in the main game directory which is where they are. The txt files I'm not so sure about. Now Facedit is behaving strangely as well with no text on any of the buttons visible. Only the text in the txt file

Never use the Facedit app. Its buggy as hell and will foul any file you opened in it.

Faction .txt files go to the same folder as the .pcx files are: in the main game folder.

On your custom factions question, you should try with a new batch of files, since it looks like the factions you opened in the facedit are now broken.

Can't fathom what went wrong with your maps. If you'd attach them here I can try to have a look on my end. My GOG SMAX version also runs under Windows 10.

The maps were all downloaded from here and I just cut and pasted them to the maps folder. What other app can I use other than Facedit to put new factions in to the game ? Ok looked on Civ Fanatics AC section and got a good tip how to get them in without using Facedit. Opened up the Alphax.txt and put them in manually in the #CUSTOMFACTIONS section

I think I know what happened. Maps for normal AC won't run on crossfire and vice versa. I tried a different map which had an X as those are the ones for crossfire and it works ok. Also managed to get the factions working by manually inputting into the Alphax.txt file and making sure all requisit files were present in the game directory

This unusual specimen is not so much a classic particle as a connector?a kind of string attaching two particles. As distance increases the connective power becomes attenuated, but if it is cut the power vanishes: forever.
