Install on Windows 10 (Win10)

Hi All,

A quick question, does SMAC work on Windows 10?

I have the disks, the original late '90s version.

Has anyone got this to work on Win 10?

Then I will hold fire buying from GOG just to see if I can provide any help to PlotinusR.

It would be neat to have a late 90's game running under Win 10. My Fallout 2 runs fine.

Is there any news on this? I've just upgraded (?) to Windows 10 and it's a source of grief that I can no longer play my favourite game.

Are you using the GOG version or one of the unofficial patches? Playing on a version without copy protection (which includes all the versions just mentioned) might help.

Problem solved.

It centred around a thing called Direct Play. This needed to be installed before SMAC would run but installation stopped with a message to the effect that another app, unnamed, had already reserved that name. A quick Google unearthed the solution which was to deactivate any anti virus software and try again, and this did the trick.
