Hubble captures stunning image of Egg Nebula

The Egg Nebula lies roughly 3,000 light years from Earth. The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has captured an incredible image of the "preplanetary nebula" as it showcases the discarded material from a dying star.

Preplanetary nebulas eventually become planetary nebulas, Phys.org notes, though they don't actually have anything to do with planets. In the new Hubble image, gas and dust surround the dying star.

 The Egg Nebula was the first of its kind to be identified by scientists, so the image is rare, since it is a "fleeting" phase in a star's life, according to Phys.org.
