I think we'll be plenty busy enough to keep me occupied.  We're looking at a real possibility of a front yard only year anyway.


The only thing I'd really be sad if I didn't get to is some 'scarecrow' concept for the contest.  That was going to be Bone Mother, but she's big and complicated and going to take 3 months of fairly regular work still.  I need to be more flexible in my scheduling.  Something smaller. 

Maybe the first Uno-zombie instead.

And there's been a series of events around here, mostly working as recruiting tools with local colleges and elementary schools.  I'm trying real hard not to become the permanent event planner for all special events at this company, but I seem to excel at it, with very few problems on any events I've been in charge of, where everyone else around here lacks the wider vision.  Total disaster today now has me filling in the rest of the week.

Found TOS on Netflix. Don't know why I couldn't it find it last time. Watched catspaw.  Reminded me of a lot of the era low budget horror, and written by Bloch, that's no surprise.

Execution of the screenplay was haphazard and the female lead really floundered, which is unfortunate as it was her, not Kirk, that should have driven the episode.  Which makes it bad Trek.

Particularly grievous was a complete lack of exploring Vulcan unconscious with aliens that bring unconscious into reality.

Highlight:  "Bad poetry, Captain" - Spock's opinion of the witches.

Wolf in the Fold is deeply flawed, but much better than that.  You'll see that it could have been very effective w/o needing near so much improvement.  -I think it was also Bloch-written, not that anything on the show got to air from one author.

Wasn't lame, really, would have made a great Night Gallery, or even Outer Limits, just not TREK.  Some network hack probably told them to make a Halloween Special, and that was a valiant effort at Trekoween.

I'm no fan of horror in general, but it's nothing if its not scary.  That episode was incredibly not-scary.  One of the very most forgettable in all ways, in fact.

The Alternative Factor, the very worst episode of real Star Trek because it didn't end up working as a story at all, was closer to being successful horror, and it wasn't even trying to do horror.

If the criteria of Horror is to be scary, I haven't seen a horror movie in 10 years or more.

There was as much horror there as many episodes of Night Gallery (remove the space elements, and just put it as, say, a modern military stumbling on actual witches), or an Outer Limits (just move it off the enterprise).  Especially of that time period, and really would fit in right next to either of those.  Again, that doesn't mean it was a good TREK episode.  Just average low budget horror of the time period. 

In fact, cast Christopher Lee as the wizard, add some shock value special effects, and you could pull off a decent Hammer Horror production out of that.

Christopher Lee was a master of that sort of thing, and polished a lot of turds in his day.

A better-looking Sylvia would have done a lot, too - Nancy Kovaks, (who played Nona the healer in A Private Little War [the horned white space gorilla episode]) could have been a very nice mix of hot and creepy/evil in the part.

In case Valka or Mylochka sees this, I CAN say Kahn-ut-tu and Mugato.

I was debating whether to say Lee or Price, actually.  I think Lee better suited for that particular role, though. 

I said the actress drug down the episode.  I don't know that eye candy was the problem so much, because wardrobe/makeup/hair did her no favors, but acting ability was sorely lacking.
