The skull...well, all of halloween might get put on hold (more on that later)...

So, yeah.  We think we're pulling the trigger on major remodeling this year.  As in knocking down the back of the house and adding on 10 ft to the whole length of the house.  Which means, we'll be in construction hell for the entire year, and timeframe brings it into October with delays that you can count on happening pushing it right up to the big event. 

It's a needed inconvenience, though.

So, Q:
 
How do I keep from going into a total malaise with the house a construction zone, no access to the garden, and an inability to work on Halloween this year? 

Thinking on it, the rest of Bone mother is real messy.  Thinking it might be better off put on hold till next year. 

Perhaps it's time to just embrace the suck, take a year 'off' and really hardcore organize everything.

Organizing is good - and I can't believe you can't think of any number of smaller-scale projects you'd like to fiddle with for the heck of it...

I don't think you realize the scope. 

We will be losing the master bedroom, 'master bath' (little more than a closet now), the kitchen sink and counters, and crowding the 'great room' upstairs.  Which means I got to make room for the master bedroom somewhere else in the house, with the leading candidate our craft room that presently houses all my supplies. 

Outside, we'll be losing the back and side yards, which means I need to transform the driveway into a patio for the grill and thus most the cooking for the summer. 

There's simply not going to BE anywhere to work.

Hmm.  That DOES sound like it'll be tough making room for physically-small tabletop projects, which is what I was suggesting.

Do it yourself with nowhere to do it, and nowhere to store it. Sounds like  a pretty stiff problem.

What would your competitive neighbor think if you only had the carving party, displayed the Jack-O-Lanterns, and greeted kids at the front door for a change? That might mess with his mind.
Maybe it's the perfect time for that.

After all, didn't you say that the numbers attending Uno-Halloween were pushing the limits of local ordinances? Maybe since you did everything you wanted to do with the old theme and are going to transition to a witch theme, it's the ideal year for a break.

Then you resume with the new theme and reduced crowds the next year, and build from there.
