Lake stink is bad today. 

While the Great Salt Lake is famous worldwide, it’s notorious locally for what has been dubbed “lake stink.” These infrequent smelly episodes usually don’t last long, but historically they have been around since pioneer days.

The saltiest of the Great Salt Lake’s water sits on the bottom of the lake. The heavy brine traps organic material (i.e., algae and plant and animal remains) and gases at the bottom of the lake. When the bottom of the lake gets stirred up, lots of bubbles rise to the surface. The bubbles release the gas that forms from the decaying organic matter, and this gas smells anything but pleasant. It smells somewhat like rotten eggs, not unlike the sulfur hot springs that are also common in the intermountain west.

For most residents of the Wasatch Front, “lake stink” wrinkles their noses perhaps two or three times a year, for usually a few hours a day. Those who live closer to Farmington Bay are bothered somewhat more often. The odor is most often noticeable when northwest winds blow across the lake, stir up the shallow waters, and carry the smell to populated areas.

Managed to do a test of an updated bone fence concept. 

We are go. 

The "bone fence" and a new "scarecrow" are the primary builds for the year.  Going to see me making skulls again, and considering buying a disarticulated skeleton so I can start copying individual bones.  A bunch of femurs would be nice, for instance.

Well, the next "Scarecrow" will  certainly qualify. Keeping in mind, as far as I'm PERSONALLY concerned, they've ALL been "scarecrows".  I'm less concerned about making it look "traditional" than I was with Father.  Did what I want with the contest, just figure I'll enter whatever I build from here on out and let them decide whether it qualifies as a scarecrow or not. 

The "bone fence" concept I have might be closer to a series of creatures than you're thinking as well.  Unobies.  Cause zombies are boring.  Roots and vines raising the bones and rotting carcasses from the ground at the Bone Mother's command.  Might toss in some subtle animation, but that's probably a year or two off. 

We're pretty much looking at my next 5 years, concept wise.  There's lots of little things I can do with this, but a lot depends on how quick I can get parts. 

(anyone else foresee a then 13 year old Talia on a nice bone THRONE?) 

On the iffn' I have time list is a Chimera rebuild using my new techniques, and possibly a chimeraling.  The neighbor kid made a cute concept drawing based on the Chimera, would be kinda fun to make it for reals.

My present bone collection "only" fills 3 totes.  Not counting skulls.  Mostly ribs.  Gonna need more. 

Family marked a couple too-fresh carcasses for later retrieval in the woods this fall...

Reminds me of when I lived in a condo and I thought the downstairs neighbor had their music up too loud. I turned mine on and up, they turned theirs up, I tipped my subwoofer to the floor and went max, they turned their's down/off, I turned mine off. Never again had a problem.

I'm rarely at my desk anyway.  Gonna try to let someone else handle it first.  My phone has a range from opera to death metal on it, though if I decide to go the fighting fire with fire route.

Crappy weekend sleep wise.  Think I logged a total of 8 hours Friday>Sunday.

Some oddities to note:

Apparently the green man upset some people. 


They've been complaining to my mom. 

Pretty much solidifies my intent to revisit the costume and improve on it. 

Briefly toyed with the idea of even modifying for Christmas, since it's not a terribly far trip to REALLY old Father Winter territory. 

There was a Christmas themed ren faire this last weekend which would have been fun to go thus bedecked, for instance.  Or the neighborhood party tonight.  Just to mess with people.
