I am very sorry I didn't get a pic of hEt in her killer outfit for the show...but it was covered most the night due to some chilly weather.  She's redone her hair and I need to get you guys pics of that as well.  More purplish and dark, of which I approve greatly.

Anyhow: Alleluia! Devils Carnival 2 Review:

To rewind just a bit for the uninitiated:

The Devil's Carnival imagines a world that, while it mirrors Christianity, Aesop's Fables serve as THE BIBLE. 

In #1, we saw Hell and how it treated 3 condemned souls, with Lucifer rebelling and forgiving the 3rd of his sin and sending him back to Heaven.  This allowed Hell to interrupt Heaven's broadcast and act as a pirate signal, sending hellish music into Heaven. 

#2 we find Lucifer acting oddly, ignoring the Carnival, not preparing for war, and holed up by himself while God is frustrated and unable to create due to the constant interruptions from Hell.

Then we enter the flashbacks for Painted Doll (forgetting her Heavenly name, sorry) to get a portrait of Heaven.  I'm forgetting the specific list, but Heaven is a caste society based on 30's Hollywood.  Gods' Pets are #1 (the movie stars) while The working Horses are the bottom tier.  Our Doll as applicant begins her career as a Horse, but catches the eye of a pet and gets a taste of the good life.  Using her sudden celebrity, she manages to commit a forbidden act I won't ruin and is cast from Heaven. 

The Aesop's fable was meant to end at this point, but as Lucifer informs us, stories don't go away just because Heaven bans them.  Thus the story continues with our Doll now mangled of face (minorly gory) from her Fall finds herself among these frightening creatures all struggling to survive, she loses everything before Lucifer welcomes her to his fold.  I will say, her transformation from the broken applicant to Painted Doll is quite fascinating to watch. 

#2 culminates in God sending his favorite Pet to Hell to deal with the rebellion.  He happens to be the same #1 that fell for Doll, and she serves up some comeuppance.  This is the Hoof and Lap I mentioned previously...and BU, you will definitely appreciate the "outfit" Doll sports here. 

This is now the third collaboration of Darren, Terrance, and Saar.  Each has had a definitive theme, and the hard line 30's musical inspiration here is fantastic and spot on.  I think the visual interpretation is one of the weaker ones to date with blues tending to wash out scenes too often for my taste.  I get WHY they did it (since Hell is all red and gold), I just think it was a wrong decision. 

I won't ever say these movies are for everyone, but if you haven't seen any of them you should give one a try.  You won't miss much jumping into Devil's Carnival 2 over one.  The budget is pathetic, and I believe this movie in particular sacrificed some visuals in order to shoot a full-length movie.  I also don't think they'd work as well as a full budget film.  If campy is an art form, then these are master level works. 

It's not totally hEt's forte, maybe she'll provide a review from a "normal" person.

I'd note that the "hellish music" sent into Heaven is pretty good show tunes.  Not all meanings of hellish...

Seems to me that if you don't take any theological aspect literally/seriously, all the clips I've seen in this thread look like pure win.

I was a little surprised to see that Lagoon has basically went shopping at Spirit...



Um...Good luck keeping things working.  Someone Somewhere must have decided it's cheaper to buy and replace throw away stuff than quality stuff and repair it.



However, it's stuff kids relate to easily, so for less scary areas, it actually WORKS well, provided it, um, works. 


One area Lagoon has MAJORLY stepped up their game is on makeup.  They have a real airbrush artist somewhere.





On the haunted houses:

Nightwalk:  DREADFUL acting this year...horrible.  Hopefully they fix.  Lighting is better than past years, though. 

Lockdown (my prison):  Incoherent...What the hell did they do to the second half?  And how does the chainsaw make ANY sense?  Acting better realized than Nightwalk, though.  Talia actually interacted with people here. 

20 years of Terror:  Greatest hits haunt.  WHY DID YOU RUIN MY LABYRINTH?  They're doing it all WRONG!!!  Other than that, to paraphrase Forest Gump, random is as random does. 

Fun House:  Did not enter.  I don't care for the clowns anyway, and the 3d stuff don't work for me. 

Pioneer Village Scare Zone:  Easily the most FUN out of them this year.  More relaxed.  Actors that don't think everything is screaming!  Marvelous!

Pretty much.  "Hellish" being anything not from God.  Don't overthink, and enjoy the music and visuals for what they are.

The Frightmares hearses are crying out for a Ghostbusters relaunch treatment, but that's surely a legal problem and the release timing will probably be way wrong to do anything with next year, even if it doesn't tank, which I smell coming...

We haven't talked about the reboot...

I expect liking Sorvino would help, but he takes himself way too seriously, and all the characters he plays do, too.  -It may be a feature, not a bug, in this case...

It is indeed hard for the Almighty to take himself TOO serious, is it not?  The My Word is Law, city destroying, firstborn killing, sacrifice demanding OT God, mind.  Not the hippy love thy neighbor NT God.
