Having a bad morning, but I suppose you'll be glad to hear that I took of and nuked the site from orbit to be sure.  I feel a tad like a huge jerk, but there it is.


We need you to take a moment to relate what your theme is this year and what you're working on.  I know you're busy, but just a few sentences, please.  People care about your work and want to know.

We're being relaxed this year, Mother, Father.  The rest is a little in the air based on what I can dredge up in the way of refuse.

I have no corn, and only ~30 pumpkins.  Can always go chop the reeds for the front, but they can't fill in on the corn tunnel.  Also decided I want some hay bales for the scarecrow contest and need to make a sign for Father. 

Putting a second coat of the flex seal on Mother/Father (though one coat rendered the clay pumpkin heads waterproof in that deluge.  Someone had been very busy building a huge web around Mother's open chest.  Figured what the hell and coated the work with the flex seal as I sprayed the babies.  Whether it will preserve the web or not is anyone's guess.

Father, needs a very little done.  The flex seal is a bit on the glossy side, which actually gives the pumpkin a good look.  For the contest, the wires will be hidden up in the chest.  For Haloween, they will be secured to the back of the post better.  For tonight, I don't much care.  Seeds by Alec.

Yes.  You talked about it around this time last year, and now I have what I have photo'd and posted.  There's enough time for snail mail if we act promptly.

Just copy pics wholesale (w/linkback because what the heck, I always gotta try to promote AC2) or whatever you think best.  Mylochka's happiness would be increased by money in her pocket.  I'll see to it she knows to at least make arrangements for unloading the masks already finished online.  -That's not part of my end of the collaboration.  She has my permission to sale everything for whatever she chooses and can get - I don't have to get half, if she really needs it.

Good, strong layout.  No quibbles there.  Black background is sorta mandatory.  You're the Thing in the Shadows.

I've only one reservation about from "by" on down for font choices, placement  and colors - the green glow is possibly -only maybe- too bright, which might say Toxic Avenger instead of Swamp Thing (If you don't know Alan Moore's [no on else's and you can skip his last year on the book] Swamp Thing, it is a tragedy.  It. was. for. you. -Find some collections; he's a challenging writer and it is best if you start at the beginning) and your work tends to be completely Swamp Thing/organic, certainly nothing radioactive, ever, that I know of.  I may be overthinking it at that, because it looks great.  (Of course, also branding, and well-incorporated.)

But I do feel pretty strongly that the font on "Father" is a loser.  Too hard to read, the letters too shiny with highlights.  I can see an intent of something resonant of scarecrows and ghosts and such, thorns and roots, but the shiny highlights make it look inorganic, which is all wrong for your work, and the overall look with that and the red glow says something like Ramstein album, and German death metal is not right for Uno's Harvest Season Organic Creepyfest at all, in my arrogant opinion.

Moby Dick doesn't work as any metaphor if he doesn't work as a whale, after all, and a sign doesn't work if it's too hard to read.  A more straight forward font is what I'd recommend before anything else.  I bet you have a simpler, woodier, stick-frame w/ string sort of font?...  Use that, if so.

Hope I wasn't too brutal.  It's a visually arresting sign as-is, and you certainly have a fine grasp of design and layout.
