Yeah smoking and my lungs wouldn't get along too well.  Smoke in general is an evil thing around me.  Hell, I use special fog juice because the regular stuff bothers me.  Best thing about the island king torches is they channel the smoke up, so I don't have to breath that anymore either.

It smells like incense and I will admit is not very offensive to non smokers.

All the hipsters used to smoke it when they went out in New Orleans years ago. It was a favorite in the "in" coffee houses of the day like Kaldi's, Rue, and later Zotz. It kinda pops when you smoke it. Expensive [poop], too. Djarums run like 8 dollars a pack. Sopernas (which are no longer made) were the menthol version and run about 6 to 7 a pack. And this is in a place where cigs are not as expensive like up north. Regular coffin nails like Kools run about 4 a pack and generics like GPCs about 3.

You see, most of us were service industry folks in the Quarter and addicted to nicotine from years of abuse from fat ass tourists and insane and egotistical restaurateurs. They do not tell you that the sweet dudes on the Food Network like Emeril, K Paul, etc's overseers are assholes.

EB enjoyed company but did not want his "sacred circle" broken by folks ducking outside on the balcony to light up. So, he decided to force on us the no smoking but cloves (or pot) rule. He even kept "guest cloves" for visitors not familiar with the rule in a gold Egyptian sarcophagus looking small box decorated with Mardi Gras beads. He never ran out of "guest cloves". Those things may smell good and not chase away non smokers, but they are so friggin harsh that you could not chain smoke them if you tried.

There's wildish woods right up to the edge of my yard as there's more room left for trees in America, and a rural broody teen is less likely to have jet black dyed hair and a nose ring, but is still broody - and smoking Djarums.

The life of Fred.

Fred first joined us Christmas 2007. At the time, he represented the most significant single investment in Halloween we had ever even thought of.

However, he was BORN July 4th, 2008. At the time, I was dragging him over to my dad to help with impaling him. Some of the neighborhood kids screamed and cried at the sight of him…my niece however danced around holding his hand singing happy birthday. Thus, he was ‘born’, and was soon at work in 2008.

And reprized his role in 2009.

In 2010, we lost nearly everything we had built up for Halloween in August, and was left with a last minute scrambling to put together SOME idea for the yard, didn’t realize I was putting together what would become a basis for our theme ever since. Fred, however escaped destruction and took one for the team.

2013, Fred was promoted to full time employee by my daughter, who insisted he needed to watch over the corn “so the birds will nibble on HIM and not the corn.”

Last month, Fred was his normal cheerful self for our little Walpurgisnacht display.

Talia has apparently declared him dead.

“That’s Fred. We put him in his coffin, so now he’s happy because he’s dead, and can be a happy ghost.”

Coulda swore I just posted in here...

Cleaning out the shed, we stumbled on the remains of the old stele that got destroyed in 2010.  Since I'm frustrated with trying to animate the skeleton project, figured I might look into rebuilding them.

I was wondering what happened in 2010 while I was formatting all that above - I do not recall ever knowing what the nature of the disaster was.

2 storms, back to back.  Broke our gazebo, which was sheltering my projects from the rain.  Projects were numerous, as we were trying to swap themes at the time.  Pretty much took out all my work in 2010.  We weren't supposed to get the wind we did those storms.  IIRC, it was end of August 2010, which left me practically no time to come up with a new idea for 2010.

Really, it was a blessing, since it was the catalyst for me starting the whole pumpkin party.

Well, the destruction coupled with some people being jerkish, claiming anyone that 'just throws up some corn and pumpkins' was just boring, so I decided that's what I was going to do.

I vaguely remember the storms and the sheds roofs being torn up, but you must have been too busy afterward to post much about what was lost - I still don't recall that.
