Awesome! You always take great photos. I was a spider fancier as a kid ( not that I remember any of the scientific names now) . Maybe this guy ( looks like a male to me)  ballooned in as a youngster? Jumping spiders were my favorite.

They were supposed to have the best vision of all spiders, which isn't saying much, but you've got to look before you leap. That gives them an edge against other spiders when it comes to a duel, or bounding away.

I don't know about your wolf spiders. Here in PA at my parents' place we are only seeing the first dandelions today.
Spring ( and ground temperatures ) are apparently weeks behind normal. Maybe they'll turn up later.

Wolfs are the ones that carry the babies on the back.  They are also sight hunters and/or ambushers, but typically bigger than jumpers.  That was definitely male, though he wouldn't hold still long enough for a good front pic.

I had noticed a BUNCH of (disorganized) webs on the coffins when we put them up, could have been some ballooning going on, but I was surprised to see this guy all full grown this time of year.  Hoping he finds a mate and makes lots of babies.

I did go out and buy a new scythe.  Mulling over rebuilding Chimera I.

I'm doing ok, honestly.  6 coffins down.  Contemplating building a gazebo now, if we can swing the $. 

If it comes down to it I might just try a crank ghost modification.

What breed of pumpkins?

I think those were Neon in the pic.  Those are the primary pumpkins we're planting.  Smallish (no bigger than a basketball) Jack o Lantern variety that is orange from the get go, and can be picked earlier than most, allowing for shorter growing seasons.  A close relative (Old Zebs) has been the best producer in my yard, so hoping this is similar.  Biggest challenge will be keeping the slugs away. 

We're also planting some sugar pumpkins, mostly for carving.  Talia, and a lot of the smaller kids like that smaller size to carve at the party.  I'm going to try to trellis them this year, should work. 

Also have a slew of mini/ornamental varieties in the Jack Be Littles (standard tiny pumpkins), pumpkemon (new variety, orange with white stripes) and the mystery variety where I saved seeds out of those green and yellow pumpkins from last year that were supposed to be jack be littles.  Now, just because the seeds come out of the green/yellow things doesn't mean that's what will grow out of them, pumpkin crossbreeding isn't visible in the fruit, so you get a bit of a gamble when you save seeds.


I tried starting my own tomatoes this year, and I'd say it's about 50/50 whether that's worked or not.  I have to make a decision in a week or 2 whether to run with my starts or go buy plants. 

We also started a crapton of flowers from seeds indoors.  All this is quite new for me, never did the greenhouse stuff before. 

Talia also got a book from school about building a sunflower house (with a packet of seeds), so we're trying that out as well.  Figured it could make a fantastic end to the corn tunnel if it works.
