So, last Friday, freezing rain, news warning everyone to stay off roads, no school closure.
Monday, 5 inches snow, no closure.
Teusday, 14 inches of snow, widely reported plows would not be able to keep up, no closure.
Wed, forecasted 1-3 inches "due to impending winter storm warnings school will be cancelled".

WTF?

FREMONT -- The scariest feature of the Stelle family's haunted house attraction this year is all the red tape the family has to cut through to make it happen.

The Fremont family's plans to continue their six-year tradition were severed when they received a notice last week from the city's building and safety department, which said the Halloween haunt is in violation of several municipal codes.

Chris Stelle, 18, had spent about three months working on the 12-room House of Horrors with at least 40 volunteers when he received the notice.

In the notice, the city says the Stelles lack a permit for their scare structure and ruled it an improper use of residential land. Stelle said the city began investigating the haunted house when a neighbor complained.

Stelle and his family have hosted the House of Horrors for the community since he was 12. What began as a 50-foot-long structure made out of plastic garbage bags has expanded to a 1,500-square-foot maze of screams and scares that is almost as big as his one-story, four-bedroom house.

"We didn't think that having a haunted house in your backyard is illegal," Stelle said. "We don't charge anyone, and we give them candy and stuff when they come back out. I don't see it as a crime."

City officials did not return calls for comment

The family led about 50 spook seekers through the haunted house in the first year, Stelle said. Last year, there were more than 1,500.

"I love to scare people, and see families happy with their children," Stelle said. "We do it for the community; we do it for the families."

While the house is free to the public, there is a suggested donation of $3 that either goes back to helping make next year's structure even more frightening or to local charities, Stelle said. The family also collects money for UNICEF and canned goods for food pantries.

Stelle and his family spent $800 to $1,000 of their own money to improve the house this year, though many of their supplies are donated by local businesses.

Since receiving the notice, the family has been scrambling to make sure their house doesn't end up in the graveyard. The notice required that the family not put the structure on residential land - they've begun taking it down and plan to erect it in the parking lot of Fremont's Center for Spiritual Living.

As for the permit, city officials told the Stelles that it may take up to 30 days to get approved. The family put in an application immediately and is now talking with the city's fire chief to bring the house up to code. That includes getting fire extinguishers and emergency exit signs, maybe even smoke detectors.

Stelle said the chief also told them that they would have to rebuild the all-wood structure with fireproof plywood, which would cost them upward of $30,000 - something the family can't afford.

"It's really hard," he said. "For them to be OK with the fact that we may have to cancel it this year for good - we just want to see everyone happy this year."

The family is still holding out hope for a Halloween miracle, but Stelle said the city won't be able to exorcise the spirit of the house forever - they'll be back, bigger and better, next year.

It's altered a bit this morning now the clay is dried a bit so it's more firm for me to work with.  The fangs curved a bit more dramatically down, dried enough to support it's weight upside down, so it sits or I'd get pics.  I'm still not 100% sold on it, but everyone else in the house really likes it. 

Anyhow, had been avoiding mentioning this...

Wedding prep is nearly done.  (hEt's cousin)  I'm doing the flowers, hEt is doing the cake.  Not things we widely advertise (though I believe I've mentioned my training with floral arrangements earlier), and we're not getting paid.  The house is an utter disaster right now, but everything is in the fridge(s) ready for the morning.

Uno did you watch the latest following?

It's on DVR, I've watched about half of it.  Saw the masked dude immolate the fellow then stab the other.  Overall, wasn't impressed up to that point.  I think the show suffers in that the best villain is locked up.  The "followers" are just not that interesting so far and there's been little here that hasn't been done (usually better) in Criminal Minds. 

Except the girl.  She has potential. 

Show would be better if the leader was still out and they can only manage to capture an underling each week, IMO. 

Been a busy week, haven't had much time to sit and do much of anything.

I think my biggest issue is with the M. Night Shyamalan moments. They have one of those moments in every episode and ruins the effect of having a twist if its expected by the audience.

Joe Carrol is the a very good villain. I hope he gets out!
