2013 Halloween has officially begun. 

This is a test of a design for my fence for 2013.  Idea is to animate the bifurcated pumpkins to increase the creepiness. 

There's a bit of a hiccup mostly because I don't have the right size of eye bolts, but they were handy to get a look at the thing in action.  Pretty pleased with my first hour of building for 2013.

(obviously pumpkins on the ends of all the poles, have to be paper mache for weight.)

Signs is on again tonight. 

I personally think this is Shyamalan's finest work.  Yes, it's a formulaic monster flick and the underlying religious drama is fairly poorly done, but it's just a charming little film that brings me back to the good old days of horror films. 

Sixth Sense is the traditional favorite, however, IMO, Stir of Echoes tells that same story much better.  While both came out at the same time, Stir of Echoes failed to realize the target audience for horror is teenagers, and did some stupid and unneeded things to purposely attain the R rating, so it was much less popular. 

(The rating thing is a problem with most horror, actually, but that's a topic in and of itself, you look at the truly successful horror movies, they are rated PG-13 with very few exceptions)

My second favorite Shyamalan is The Village.  It's been on my back burner to make one of those creatures for some time...

I thought Signs was distant and unengaging.  I had so much trouble buying into the reality of the story that - I can't can't even come up with a metaphor/joke about it.

The Sixth Sense, on the other hand, sucked me in completely.  Completely.  I cried in the parking lot afterward.

I'm a sucker for Alien movies.  Specifically alien abductions in general.  Even the "documentaries" on this get to me, probably because I have a childhood memory that fits most the descriptions that remains unexplained.  So, Signs had that going for it with me heading right in.  Otherwise it harkens back to the classic horror movies to a large degree. It plays like something out of the 50's and probably would have been much better in black and white.

Yeah, school's canceled this morning now as well (which...I think this is only the second time in my life that's happened, we don't get snow days).  Shoulda stayed home...
