She's going to be a force, that's for sure.  She loves this stuff as much as me, but she'll be getting some actual support instead of discouragement.

Well, that's exactly how to get little artists started; take care of the heavy lifting (actualy drawing, whatever) under their direction.  My mom did that with us - I never wore a store-bought halloween costume after the age of six, for example, only my own designs - and it works.  As I grew up and got more patience and controll of my motor skills, I gradually learned to do things for myself.  She helped me become a writer the same way.

Talia's the artist of the family.  She already draws better then the boys.  You show her to draw something and she'll reproduce it great.  One of the things I do with her is we exchange messages and pictures.  I'll draw something on her chalkboard before work, she'll erase it and reproduce it for me in the afternoon.

Alec is our actor, though.  He LOVES acting. 



To the point we have a hard time getting him to be himself at times.

Kyle is the singer, of all things.  Especially song and dance broadway stuff.

Playing around with the backlighting.  Decided to bring them up off the ground, gonna have to rewire it in the morning, but it's looking good.  The full moon this year is working WITH us, which is unusual. 

Need to full on fog test tomorrow as well, decide if any of the machines are going in the front.

I like your kids more and more the more I hear.  I really wished you lived closer. 

Does anyone in the family sew well?  That's Momma's primary medium, and it's hard to beat for a mix of artistic outlet and saving many thousands of dollars a year.  Something to teach the kids early, as much as you can.  I'm very glad I know what she taught me.

Is Alec the one whose face you also sent, or Kyle?  Mom commented just tonight that he's a very handsome young man.

No sewing. 

Well, I can a bit.  Only hand sew, though.  No machines.  I made up my own hood pattern this year as a 'just in case' bunch of costume pieces.  (Hood and uh, whatever you call the shoulder piece, ren fair crap)  Sewing the seams with (imitation) sinew.

WTF was that? 

So, essentially a modernization of some aesops fables, and a bunch of symbology that really makes no sense if you don't follow the authors flung into a haphazard musical.  Couple of expertly lit sets but otherwise fairly worthless.

Hand-sewing is a basic skill everyone should have.  Period.

YOU - you would get more use out of basic machine-and-making-things-from-scratch skills than most.  That's British understatement.


You'll love this - back in college, I rarely went home on the weekends.  It was usually pretty quiet, and on Saturdays, I often got out my sewing kit and did repairs on my clothes.  You know what I look like and I believe you know I'm 6', 230 pounds.  People passing my open door in the dorm would see me sitting in the back of the room sewing - there would be sitcom double-takes, where their heads would pop back into the door frame to be sure they saw big hairy mean-looking me sitting there sewing.  I'd look up and go "What?"

It was one of the mostly beautifully subtle mind-intercourses I ever did to people; and all I had to do was leave my door open while I did part of my weekly routine...

Unfortunately I'm biased against sewing. 

Mom being the unabashed hippie, she sewed all our clothes.  Which would have been fine and all.  But, a boy can only get in so many fights for having rainbows and flowers on his jeans.  Hence second thing I did when getting my first job at the age of 8 was buying myself a couple pairs of proper jeans for school. 

I view it as a last resort type thing.  The hoods being a case in point when internet wanted $50 or more for some, which is ludicrous.  I like the hand sewn look for that kind of stuff as well. 

It is a point that my fat ass is unsuited to the standard costume available in stores, however.  I have a couple people that are capable seamstresses in those cases.

[shrugs] My mom didn't believe me about how tight my Sunday shoes were, and I still don't like wearing shoes now.  When I do set foot out of the house for anything more that a cigarrette run, I put shoes on anyway, 'cause it ain't worth fighting society's irrational reaction.

Hey - this is a GotM ideas post that I thought I'd share, 'cause I don't know that anyone on the team 'thinks' horror.  Naturally, I thought of you...

It just struck me...



The background concept I had in making my first faction was always "lab experiment run amok". 

You know what?  There's a really creepy horror story in that.  Anyone think they'd like to write some horror?  I'll be glad to help, but I'm not a horror guy, so someone else needs to take point.

I've also done a Planet Cult version of same, with the worm taking Cha's place entirely, and there are two worm factions in the NN stuff. Definitely GotM possibilities there.  Deirdreworm could even be a controlled clone, so the Gaians and Cult could still be in there - or not...

So what's up?  This place was down for me last night. 

I'll have to look at that after Halloween.  Scifi is not my thing, however, and I've never got AC working on this computer, so it might be rough as I haven't even touched it for a couple years.
