Um, that must be smoke not a contrail  Contrails are just clouds - condensed water.  If it is black it is something else, unless water has changed color on me and I didn't notice.......

I'm aware, but the description fit.  Definitely wasn't in the military flight paths to the west desert, so either we launched something from wyoming, or a commercial jet had an engine fire. 

(honestly LOOKED more like a launch, though black smoke would have been non-standard rocket fuel)

The old black-and-white Universal horror movies were a mixed bag, but they had some imagination. They could be creepy or campy, weird or lyrical. “The Mummy” gestures — or flails — in a number of directions but settles into the dreary 21st-century action-blockbuster template.

I'm not too terribly pleased with the new owners over there.  Super mega corporate conglomerate that doesn't give two shakes about Halloween.  Trying to engage with them has been impossible.  Though, I may have convinced them to reach out to some actual vendors.  Problem is we can only talk to the support team, which isn't the folks I need to engage with on actually improving the place.  They keep the lights on and the crap running, but seem only interested in the free cashflow the place brings. 

Just been far too busy with the house and things to get into much Halloween this year, though there's a super secret project working in the basement.  I tend to not post things THERE till I'm nearly done.  Lots of folks like to steal my ideas over there, then make cla$$es teaching a watered down how to build it at conventions.

Ya, I remember you talking about how things over there get copied quickly.

Every time I think of signing up, I just realize how commercial that site is and it makes me think "fun to look at every year or two, but not so much to visit every day or even every month".

The people are fine for the most part.  It's more a they could be doing a lot more with the place, but the new owners don't care.  Membership has been dwindling (it's all relative, mind you, hundreds a day instead of thousand plus) since the switch.  They pay so little attention they even ran ads for another forum last season.  As long as the banners keep making money, that's all they care about.
