Can't do 2, that doesn't fit symbolically.  2 is for peace, unity, balance, it's just all wrong. 

But then that was beaten into me that 3 is 'wrong', so you "NEED" 5 is always yelling in the back of my head.  (Among other joys, mom used to do flower arrangements, and we ALL had to help with the weddings.  3 is WRONG!  5 of primary flower, 7 of accents, dammit, 3 is for the greens!)

3 is for joy, new paths, passage of time, ending.  It could work, if it weren't 'wrong'.  (likely candidate just to exorcise that)

4 is, just no.  Not going there.

5 is instability, radical change, primitive, erratic.  It's just symbolically RIGHT. 

Not that I would expect anyone to actually COMPREHEND any of that.

Oh, the blacklighting would Hide the whole contraption aspect quite well, but you'd see the fluorecent lines of the veve/circle move.

Um.  I'm brainstorming and trying to articulate.

What about instead of a "grave" grave, we put a "breathing grave" (or 3) underneath a magic circle.  We did a BIG (15') magic circle in 2011, I'm thinking more like 8' or so for this. 



By lighting it with blacklight, and drawing it in fluorescent, the edges and anything NOT fluorescent will appear BLACK, making it much easier to disguise the thing to begin with.  I could even get my actor boy to do some chanting over the thing.

Or taking the really EVIL route, put actor boy in the middle as a sacrifice  (in a spider man outfit...LOL) and surround him with the breathing graves magic circle.

First post over on the Halloween forum  coulda swore I copied most of it here. 

Much like last year's thread I'm getting my theme ideas out in the open and seeing where it takes me this year.

I'm going back to my roots.  At least the roots of the current neighborhood. 

Of all the irony, it was a marching band that got me set on this course.  THE MUSIC is just so fun. 

But, I also need to grow, so it's time to re-examine those roots and see what comes up. 

The original concept sprang from many sources, perhaps most dominant being Clash of the Titans. 

I LOVED that movie as a kid.  The idea was, specifically, to recreate something of Calibos's swamp.

I think we're well on track.  But, I want BETTER skulls.  NEW skulls,  NOT ALL THE SAME MODEL skulls. 

Then, there was those things I never got to this year. 

No, we're not doing a cemetery this year...but you know what?  Those breathing graves from Madmax, who says they need to be on a tombstone? 

The Serpent and the Rainbow gave me a most wonderful idea for those in the most brief of scenes.




Skulls, candles, and veve for a grave.  The veve especially would highlight the motion of the thing.   

Oh, and I need that shrine I saw in that book the one time.  Or several similar shrines.

Oh man; I've noticed the trampoline in your pictures.  It's a lot harder to ignore as a jarringly inappropriate element than the chain link fence everywhere.  You definitely need to work in the trampoline SOMEhow just to disguise it, and keep it from shouting "THIS IS ALL FAKE!" every year.

Actor boy would chew that stuff right up, I betcha.

Well you'll recall that I was thinking Neanderthal.  Probably go to a little trouble for accuracy, or it's no test of my powers...

Big plus that the brow ridges and exaggerated features ought to be inherently more creepy.

My skullpts always tend to get pretty neaderthal in their appearance.

I'm getting way ahead of myself to ask, but I'll have to make you a mold - obviously, the opening has to go about where the spinal hole would be; any suggestions about supporting something that size I need to keep in mind while making the mold, and keeping in mind the support needs that'll exist at the casting end?  Should I just go for a solid plaster mould, or better, something latexy for the actual inner mould with plaster poured around it in two parts for support?

Hey, I answer molding questions all day over on the Halloween forum.

I guess the question is what material are you planning to cast in?  That determines how much support you need, really.

My skulls I do with a latex mold and the only support being some cheese cloth latexed right into the mold itself on areas I don't need to stretch.  This doesn't work well for resin castings, but great for plaster.  I pour in layers, mixing the plaster to about pancake batter thickness, roll around the mold to coat it, and dump the extra (usually into the next skull mold) Once you get 2-3 coats on that, you could to a solid pour if that's what you're interested in. 

Or you can go right to making the mother mold.  A 2 piece plaster shell as you describe could work.  Last time I just rigged one up with tape and el cheapo clay:
