Notice that the cats and the fish are Halloween colors.

I hadn't noticed that.

No salt, he's an Oscar, which is amazonian.  The logs in the tank are actual amazonian wood to maintain the proper PH.

The only reason he's an oscar is the boys fed my angels magnetics and poisoned the tank,  and I couldn't afford more angels, but I had it set up for the amazon.  So, that left me with oscars as what I could afford.  Didn't realize they could be so long-lived at the time.
They're hell on other fish, too.

I'd have SWORN Oscars were salt-water - I only know about them because a close friend in college had one.  What am I confusing, then?  He was trying to keep a salt-water tank going for a while, and I recalled the Oscar in that, lo, 30 years ago...

Original tank, fish imported from Ohio, which were F1 cichlids.  The local market soon got flooded with our babies, and the species is now widely available here.

Angels, special order from local breeding factory.

Joe, random petsmart fish....

Some people use salt to treat against disease, maybe?  Not near enough to go marine tank, or even brackish though.

30 years ago might be too long to remember accurately on details on something that wasn't important to me...

I'd have SWORN Oscars were salt-water - I only know about them because a close friend in college had one.  What am I confusing, then?  He was trying to keep a salt-water tank going for a while, and I recalled the Oscar in that, lo, 30 years ago...

Uh, he's a strange guy, but not in the way saying that sounds...  I dunno; he read a lot - good books.  I read half his copy of The Satanic Verses and discovered the Anne Rice vampire stuff through his copies of the first three back before she ran it into the ground so hard the series came out in China and is halfway to Alpha Centauri by now - and 40 billion trendoid kids (who think they're non-conformist while they non-conform alike in groups) slimed everything with it's trendoid/goth to like teh Lestat...

Not as smart as his somewhat-sophisticated reading tastes make him sound, but I must misremember/conflate some key detail of which fish was in what tank...

...Have we ever talked about the Anne Rice vampire stuff?  I came to it before it got real popular, which really did help ruin it for me - though not near as much as the 200 quintillion sequels not being very good by comparison...

Queen of the Damned.  -They got markedly better each book for the first three.  Stop there, though - (Memnoc the Devil was pretty okay), but I stopped keeping up after a while as they stopped being about history and comparative religion -what I liked about Lestat and Queen- in favor of focusing on the perverse and incredibly gay -what I hated about Interview With The Vampire and almost everything else before I gave up.

Once upon a time in my youth, her ideas about vampires were interesting and original -both of which were ruined by popularity, as she's hopelessly ripped off all over creation now, and hacking out hackery not-for-me, besides.

What I liked about the books, and I read maybe the first three, is that they got back to the Stoker basics unlike other stuff at the time, something that made vampirism seem more plausible. 1) That vampires could manage their numbers by controlling who drank from them, instead of the biting contagion frenzy. 2) That everything wasn't a bloody mess like the movies, it was about the absence of blood. It was about getting every drop, or at least getting every drop you could without killing.

6am, if anything winds are getting worse, all neighborhood stations are offline for exact numbers, power sketchy.

Father surviving is no surprise.  Mother is a little bit of a surprise.

Planet's atmosphere, though a gasping death to humans and most animals, is paradise for Earth plants. The high nitrate content of the soil and the rich yellow sunlight bring an abundant harvest wherever adjustments can be made for the unusual soil conditions.
