Expedition Unknown. Great show, really.

I'd fallen in love with Gates for Destination Truth, and this show is pretty much the same, but much more grounded in reality.

This video is sped up so he sounds a little chipmunky. This episode, he actually talks to the folks that ate a vampires heart, but if you watch, you'll find the shows are more about the cultures surrounding whatever he was going to look for than the intended target of the investigation, and this series allows him more of THAT exploration than looking for ghosts or monsters in the night.

I wore this on my belt for years in all weather, and that shows. Scrap metal and an ax handle - figuring out how to pour the lead pommel was tricky. A commoner's prop, you can see the string from the peace tie that was still on it - and that the belt loop still hasn't been repaired from a nasty fall at my last fair.

Peace tying was just the law - it was a good idea. I'd have had God knows how many punk boy draw my knife to see if it was real, and they'd have been armed when I slapped their hands if it wasn't for that bit of string.

It ain't super high-quality, though it wasn't supposed to be - I wish I could weld a little, 'cause the crossguard wiggles the teeniest bit. But I've eaten steak with it, just to see if I could -the blade was freshly shined, of course, at the time- and oh yes - it is real.

I should have left the stupid thing home, actually. It was asking for trouble to have it on ever again after I slapped my first hand.

Note the deliberately crude cross carved into one side of the handle...

In California, it remains illegal to have sheath knives in many locations. I imagine that dagger falls well within the range of a sheath knife.

I only got as far west as Arizona with the renfairs. No idea what the local laws on that were anywhere I worked, but there were always a lot of participants wearing belt knives with nothing but a snap strap for a peace tie, and I'd probably have had plenty of warning before I got in trouble...
