Finishing up work on my daughter's staff.

The top was painted random blackish mismatch paint I had, then the accents dry brushed in gold.



The bottom I stained walnut, then took advantage of all the borer tracks and painted them gold.

That sounds like you're moving up ion the world, whether you like it or not.

-And I do understand preferring a not-stuck-in-one-place job...  I trust you'll at least be making more -- and getting paid to sit indoors and use your brain instead of your hands isn't all downside.  You're smart; you'll do good.

Side note, we did our annual pumpkin sale today.  ~40 mini pumpkins and 100 or so carving size sold at dirt cheap prices.
 
It's been interesting what's happened to the market just by my doing this. 

 
The local Wal-Mart has pumpkins up for what they always do, $5 for biggish carvers. 
The local small chain grocer has pumpkins up at $.25/lb.  Half what they were selling them for before "some jerk" started selling them for a buck.
The local fruit stand thus far has very minimal pumpkins available, and what they do have up is mostly specialty varieties.  Seems they've mostly given up as they used to do a big pumpkin patch and charge a boatload.  Chances are they just shift those to other stands a little further away, but still.

Toying with the idea of doing a pumpkin mask for me.  It's a complete cliche, which is some of the challenge.  I'm just not sure yet.

I wish I had a picture of the pumpkin mask I made and wore when I was seven.  It was more of a helmet, and I recall it not being very good.

I don't think I've seen a good pumpkin head yet, honestly. 

My fence ones are the best I know of and they wouldn't translate to a costume at all.
