Thanks for the perspective, Geo. I am still constrained by thinking in terms of rules, and how people need to be dead for certain honors, such as having ships, coins, currency, and stamps named after them.

But sure, start with the [Sleezebag] naval yards, then a new class of warship, and Congress will spare no expense to see that the ships aren't a failure, but are the greatest ever. Probably gold leaf to prevent corrosion, too.

Nope.  Battleships!

Go figure.  I thought that they were phased out, and for good reason.  The Hood, The Bismark, the Yamato. All lost along with significant prestige and number of men. The warships that navies were reluctant to risk. They made sense for a while post WWII as part of an amphibious assault task force, but that is something that is considered too risky any more as well. Desert Storm used amphibious assault forces as a demonstration rather than as an actual assault/landing.

These days the dreadnaughts dread everything- airplanes, submarines, missiles, drones, suicide speedboats. The only threat they don't have to worry about any more is another battleship. I don't see a way around that unless they make it submersible so that it can avoid satellite detection.
