So Gilligan's Island appears to be both an active volcano and a coral atoll.

I think that's actually plausible if the volcano had only reactivated very recently.

Revised start time in the Wed early morning update: "Episode 39 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption ended abruptly at 2:13 a.m. HST on December 24, 2025 after 5.9 hours of continuous fountaining (the start time was revised from 8:10 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. HST on December 23 based on tilt and tremor data).

The north vent stopped erupting at approximately 2:00 a.m. HST. The south vent stopped erupting at approximately 2:13 a.m. HST, marking the end of the episode. Lava fountains from the south vent reached up to 1400 ft (420 m) while north vent fountains were just under 1000 feet (280 meters) around 9:30 p.m. HST on December 23. Episode 39 fountains lasted for 5.9 hours and produced an estimated 13 million cubic yards (10 million cubic meters) of lava. The combined average eruption rate was over 250 cubic yards per second (190 cubic meters per second) from the dual fountains. Lava flows from the fountains covered about 60-70% of the floor of Halemaʻumaʻu crater."

Another Wed update says that the fountains reached ~1400 feet (425 m).

Also "The rapid rebound of inflationary tilt and presence of low level volcanic tremor indicate another fountain episode is likely to occur. There is insufficient data for modeling, but the next episode is likely about 2 weeks away."

From the Wed 7 Jan update: "Intermittent glow was seen from both vents overnight, with some spattering visible occasionally within the north vent. Kīlauea summit region showed slow inflation on tiltmeter UWD over the past 24 hours. Forecasting models suggest the window for lava fountaining episode 40 is between January 9 and 14."

I do believe that's early fountain, north vent.

From the Sunday update:

"Lava overflowed nearly continuously from the north vent in Halemaʻumaʻu overnight, with continued pulses of dome fountaining and overflows from the south vent. Activity has decreased this morning to about one overflow per hour from the south vent and only spattering from the south vent.Kīlauea summit region showed deflation on tiltmeter UWD since about 4 p.m. yesterday. The prolonged precursory activity has extended the forecast window for the onset of episode 40 high foutaining from now to January 17." ...

"Nearly continuous overflows continued from the north vent most of yesterday and throughout most of last night. Intermittent dome fountains continued to form within the south vent over the past day and last night, feeding pulses of lava overflowing from the south vent several times an hour. Activity at the north vent decreased after 3 a.m. this morning, with lava only intermittently overflowing the vent. As of this morning, only spattering is visible within the north vent and large overflows from the south vent have slowed to about one per hour with the last overflow ending just before 9:10 a.m. HST.  Overflows from the south vent continue to feed an active lava flow that extends over 1500 feet (500 meters) across the floor of Halemaʻumaʻu crater.

Since the end of episode 39, the Uēkahuna tiltmeter (UWD) has recorded 23 microradians of re-inflation beneath Kīlauea summit; however, UWD showed nearly a microradian of deflation to 22 microradians since about 4 p.m. yesterday associated with the overflows from the north and south vents last night. The SMC tiltmeter mirrors the UWD tiltmeter, but SDH shows continued slight inflation, possibly influenced by the deeper south caldera magma chamber."

Higher dome fountaining out of the north vent. Is it finally happening?

[Edit] They just zoomed out and adjusted the view.

Per Mon notice: "Episode 40 of lava fountaining in Halemaʻumaʻu began at the summit of Kīlauea began at 8:22 a.m. HST on January 12."

From Mon update:

"Sustained lava fountains erupting from the north vent are currently reaching heights of more than 660 feet (200 meters) and feeding a lava flow on the crater floor. Intermittent spatter continues from the south vent. Tephra is currently falling on the western and southern rim of Halema'uma'u crater. Volcanic gas emission rates increased significantly with the onset of sustained lava fountaining. The sulfur dioxide emission rate is typically 50,000-100,000 tonnes/day during an eruptive episode. The gas plume is currently rising straight up to heights over 13,000 feet (4,000 m) above ground level." ...

"North vent fountains are currently feeding lava flows on the floor of Halema'uma'u crater. At about 6:30 a.m. this morning, spattering in the north vent increased and began to feed an overflow from the vent. At about 7:00 a.m., the spattering transitioned to a continuous narrow and small fountain, likely caused by a restriction in the vent that resuled in a nozzle-effect that led an arcurate spatter fountain 15-30 feet (5-10 meters) high feeding a flow from the north vent. Sustained fountaining from the north vent began at 8:22 a.m. Fountain heights increased steadily and currently exceed 660 feet (200 meters) in height. Right now, the tephra fall out zone is observed to be on the western and southourn rim of Halema'uma'u crater.

Sustained lava fountains are not yet erupting from the south vent at the time of this update but intermittent lava spattering and small dome fountains continue. The south vent formed dome fountains feeding overflows from the vent at a rate of about one per hour over the past day, with about 30 overflows total feeding lava flows on the floor of Halemaʻumaʻu crater. From the Tues update:

"Summit eruption episode 40 lava fountaining began at 8:34 a.m. HST, January 12 and ended 9.7 hours later, at 6:04 p.m., after reaching maximum heights of about 800 feet (250 meters). The onset of the next lava fountaining episode is likely about 2 weeks away, but more time and data are needed to forecast."
