On the subject, did you ever watch Brimstone?  Short run of a TV show that the only saving grace was John Glover as Satan.

That's a new one by me.  Doesn't look terrible.

Wasn't Brimstone a western series on HBO?

Uh, maybe?

This was one of the major networks (probably fox), what, late 90's?

Outside of John Glover's appearances, most the episodes are entirely forgetable.  Sci Fi likes to drege it back up around this time of year.

That Lucifer wouldn't have threatened a threatening angel with Dad.
Wellll, possibly---

"You will not.  I do not know why He has tolerated my existence for ten billion years, but tolerate He has.  You will cease to bore me pretending that you may."

---But as likely just blinding burning light, depending on how arch the angel is.

Sign is printed.  If I'm able to nix the continuing migraine, I'll put the last touches on Father tomorrow.  Actually looking forward to the competition.  Can't wait to lose to humpty dumpty...

Don't think I've related the Humpty Dumpty story over here...

Back as a lad in elementary school, the school had 2 "big" events for Halloween.  The Costume contest, and the Pumpkin contest.  Now, my school featured a wide diversity of some very wealthy families, and some very poor.  Being a lot closer to the latter demographic, I realized very early that I was never going to win the costume contest.  Thus, when my mind turned to Halloween 24/7 at age 8, I circled the pumpkin contest as the thing I WAS GOING TO WIN!

A lame attempt at age 8.  I tripped heading to the bus at age 9, and my efforts to glue it back together with fake blood, while humerous, were not worth.  Thus, in 5th grade I was damn fired sure I was going to win.

I made a spider.

Yes, that's a clothes hanger web.

I took second place.  To a Humpty Dumpty.

Now, EITHER this other boy in my class suddenly had not only taken an interest in sewing and become extremely proficient at it....OR...his mom made Humpty Dumpty.

His mom.  President of the PTA...who was judging the contest.

During the assembly to hand out the awards, the principle called me up for second place, and asked the student body "and who thinks this should have won?"

This began a long history of me taking lower places to "Humpty Dumpty" whenever I/something I make enter a contest.  , to a point where I expect it.

Kyle there losing to a store bought baby...I think it was a pea costume...

Multitude of Guild Wars contests losing to bikini armored girls.

My Friend I did up as Hellboy lost to a little bo peep.

It's a systemic problem, though.  Even Pumpkinrot never managed to win, and loses to humpty dumpty:

Oh man.  Story of my life.  I do not know how it is even POSSIBLE to get me to attend the end-of-the-year kind of thing where they give awards.  I'm only going to leave hurt and angry.  If AC2 had them, the person who signed up last night would get recognized before me, no matter that I ran the contest and was sole judge trying to rig it.  I never win anything.  ANYTHING ever.  I throw myself into a thing like nobody else there, you know I'm not without a few talents, and -- you actually saw this happen at the last place yourself, where it turned out to be a contest with unfathomable rules.

As I just told Lori, not trying to one-up, just expressing solidarity with your luck.  I want to know who put a curse on me 45 years ago and how to get rid of it.

I go in expecting to be able to laugh about it.  Though admittedly the $100 would be rather nice, I expect to lose to some sack person in a dress honoring insert sob story here.

I was once Jaimie w/ an okay kilt for a decent selection of all five Doctor Whos at the time and a cute Romanna, with a funny act, who lost a con costume contest to an eight year-old  boy in a store-bought wookie costume who didn't hear the head or do anything but walk on and back off.  Turns out the Romanna really knew how to cuss.

"Hear the Head"  Ok, that's a new one on me...

So...

Apparantly a new person started Monday and it's caused quite a stir so now we all get to go to sensitivity training.  Yay.

At issue, they apparantly have a service dog, and some people have an issue with that.

I'm a little surprised because over 50% of the workforce is veterens, and I thought service dogs for veterens had become mainstream enough people would know not to take issue?

Now, I'm aware that some people out there use "service dog" as an excuse to bring their pet to work.

I'm also aware 90% of the population doesn't know how to handle a service dog.  It's WORKING, you don't go pet it and baby talk it.

Having bred and raised SHOW dogs, I can also tell a trained dog from an untrained one in a hurry.  I'll be meeting this dog either today or tomorrow and will know whether this is a trained service dog or a "service dog" at that point.
_____________________________________________________________________

On an aside, my neighbor has 2 dogs that are typically unruly.  He's Kyle's friend and one day they were walking by and those dogs went nuts yanking and dragging this boy going after Talia.  I took the leashes and had 2 well behaved dogs in 2 minutes.  90% of dog training is establishing yourself as Alpha.  I'm afraid that boy may never grasp that aspect.

______________________________________________________________________

Great as dogs can be, I'll keep my cats.

(for giggles/out of boredom, I trained one of my cats to walk on a leash last year.  He won't mind anyone but me very well, though.  )

You need to talk to Mylochka.  I've been trying to tell her that about her dogs for years.

"wear the head" - typo.  The kid wasn't even wearing the whole costume.

Think we've found pumpkins finally.  At less than half the market rate, probably the best I'll be able to do without gambling and hoping for a last minute firesale.  Going to go look up what prices were 6 years ago.

From 2010:

Quote
The Pumpkin search made several strides today.

Our current price listing is as follows:

Day Farms: $.16/lb (best price on med-large sizes)
Maceys: $.19/lb
Home Depot: $4 ea
Walmart: *Varies by store. Seen them priced both by lb and by each. Averaging around $2.50 for a ‘normal’ size pumpkin
__________________________________________________

Farm in Harrisville: $.50 1-5lb, $1 5-10lb, $2 10-15lb, $3 15-20lb, etc *will not discount for my purposes as he serves a couple schools and wont have enough.
Country Gardens Nursery: $.20/lb *Likes The Harvest idea, will discount to $.12/lb for my bulk order
Welch’s Produce, Nursery, and Handmade Gifts: $.20/lb *offered 25% discount ($.15/lb) for bulk order, but willing to haggle on that.

Prices today seem a rather flat $.25/lb across the board, with several places offering $3-5 pumpkins (which is a horrible deal).

As an aside, most the local farms have informed me they actually can't grow enough and end up buying additional from a big farm in central Utah.  That would require me paying delivery, which ends up at $.15/lb from the big farm.

Two local farms that DO grow enough refuse to give bulk rates.

However, I found a farmer in the next county through word of mouth.  He doesn't advertise, and has a fairly set list of clients, but has enough for me at $.12/lb delivered.  $.11/lb if I go pick up.  I'm actually BEATING my 2010 price!  With bulk prices at $.12-$.15, and stores charging $.25/lb and up, it always amuses me the markup that happens...especially when come November 1, loads of pumpkins go into the trash.

Maybe we'll just end up getting on his client list for the future.

If our society seems more nihilistic than that of previous eras, perhaps this is simply a sign of our maturity as a sentient species. As our collective consciousness expands beyond a crucial point, we are at last ready to accept life's fundamental truth: that life's only purpose is life itself.
