Winter?  That's what snow is for.

The pumpkins and gourd arch are not going to be a permanent thing.  straight up, I just didn't have the budget to plant the entire space.  When the wildflower seeds I had sown and was planning for all that space didn't germinate, I let the volunteer pumpkins grow and tossed out the years old seeds I had in the cupboard specifically to act as ground cover this year.

The sides near the arch were planned to be burning bushes, which get 8' here.  I killed the ones I tried to move, and they store ones come so root bound they die off after a year or two.  ( I'm seeing that with a LOT of nursery plants lately)  I was going to shape them into a good entrance, and the bright red leaves for Halloween would have been marvelous.  I'll come up with a plan B eventually.

The other failed plan was my butterfly bushes meant to go along the fence and form a living fence.  They did not transplant well this time after splitting and transplanting fine the first.  One may have survived.  Plan B there is actually ROSES.  The neighbors have a climing rose on the fence.  I'm going to take cuttings and try to propogate next spring.

Most the rest where the pumpkins are will be getting the iceplant.  Again, negative space.  This gives me room for props on halloween.

I am planning to plant Tulips and grape hiacinth (spelling) under the ice plant as bulbs can go under it and grow up through, so we'll have fields of flowers in the spring that die off to reveal the ice plant mat/lawn under.  The final form is years down the road.

A ship at sea is its own world. To be the captain of a ship is to be the unquestionable ruler of that world and requires all of the leadership skills of a prince or minister.
