So.  When I was hired, you had my actual job, supposed to take 80% of my time. 

10% help on safety
10% help on Facilities. 

Well, the Facilities manager quit back in September last year, I had to cover.  The new Facilities manager is about as inept as possible, so I'm spending about 50% of my time there. 

Anyway, back the week of the 4th.  I was on vacation, and they had a major power outage.  There's 3 buildings on campus here.  1575, 1580, 1581. 

When power was restored, a cat had crawled into the fuse box of 1580, and it got fried.  Since then, 1580 has been having nothing but trouble.  Elevators randomly stopping wherever they want, with lights flickering.  AC unit randomly switching heat or cool.  Alarms going off for no reason.  Various pumps and motors dying, etc.  Most things traced to that power spike when the cat got fried, various electronic components of things just melted. 

Sunday, I got called in to respond to THIS:

I'm ready to call the place officially haunted by the ghost of the cat. 

It was the actual power coming in to the building surging like that.  We don't know why breakers weren't tripped, but it fried half the systems in the building.  A squirrel got into the same box as the cat...

And why THIS box?  There's 5 others right next to it that haven't had problems in 7+ years.  I still don't understand how it didn't just pop a circuit and instead cause the constant surge. 

To be honest, though, the cat is explained because the door got left open as they were trouble shooting the power outage that day.

Call one of the ghost hunter shows. I'm sure their mysterious electronic instruments will detect energy. Or if they wave them around enough, pick up some sounds.

Seriously, if it's been this many years and they haven't figured it out they should give up and replace the whole box.  Strange things happen with electricity, especially during surges. Insulation can melt, wires can weld themselves to other metal or arc, somewhere that isn't obvious. Then you have an alternative circuit, but maybe only during another surge.

Has the entire box been replaced post- cat & squirrel, or could there still be inconspicuous critter residue, burnt wires and what not somewhere inside? 

I'm confused. Oh. The building is 2 years old , and the original surge was around 7/04/2017 ?  Only a month ago? So you're probably still finding other things damaged by the surge?
