So, heard something out back and went a looking, found my visitor out in the garden again...but this time it flew off. 

With that bit of information it wasn't hard to find the culprit. 

Distress call this morning, while clamoring through the pumpkins.  They are capable of sprinting as well as flight.

Probably not the tomato culprit, and likely hunting bugs and maybe mice in the yard.  Fairly rare for Utah, one of the least common Owls to come on anyway.

Actually, I find this mystery interesting. Same as I did the mystery jumping spider, the monarch butterflies that didn't exist in Utah, the aphid plague, and the slug plague that was defeated by a skunk. It's all cool.

The great thing about this forum is that you have the ability to create a thread of your own and name it -

That is really cool. I suppose it's too dark to snap his picture. I think I once saw one of those in a zoo, but mostly I live in the opposite part of the country from burrowing owls.
