Oh, I don't know about that.  I enjoy the building more than I do the actual event. Halloween night, itself, is more about the kids.  I'll have to figure out how to get the vid hEt did of Talia.

The "Boo" ornament above Alec(?)'s hand in the first pic of post #1992 goes well. It almost looks like he's carrying the sign. ;lol

At what age does the "trick or treat" walkaround usually stop for American children?

There's the rub.

USUALLY the average household will start giving you questionable looks when you hit your teenage years, and likely comment 'aren't you getting old' or something along those lines in the 14+ range (or whenever puberty is becoming obvious).  It starts becoming less 'cool' with the other kids around middle school, and generally looked down on in highschool.

Some cities are putting official limits on trick or treat recently.  General age limit there is the 12-13 age range.

Myself, I stopped at 8 and started haunting.  Kyle chose to stop at 9, Alec at 8.  Talia's showing no signs of slowing.  She goes trick or treat, then comes home and helps here.

Now, as far as I'm concerned, for my yard:  There is no age limit.

Had a couple come through last year in their 70s.  Alone.  Just to trick or treat.  HELL YEAH, come on through!
This year, had a 18? year old (+- 1 year) group.  Just to our house, not general trick or treat, then go back home to watch movies.  Perfect.
Also had a couple 16-17 year olds come over on an obvious group date.  Good for them.

The only line I draw is the couple folks DRIVING THEIR KIDS AROUND tried one year, asking for a refill of their beer.  Yeah, I don't need to be helping you break the laws there, buddy.

Am I missing something here? Trick or treat is going from door to door for candy, and haunting is what you do on your yard, yes?
So these three from the 16-18 age group came for candy?

Trick or Treat is going door to door for candy, yes.  Haunting is what us wierdos do in our yards, yes.

More like 10-12 in a couple groups.

Candy and entertainment in the case of a yard haunt, yes.

Think of it this way.

So, you're a 14-18 year old group of kids.  Can't get a ride to the haunted house or don't want to wait in those lines/pay that $, it's not cool to go trick or treat, and your parents won't let you watch the "good" movies (mostly a misconception, and probably a bit of a Utah thing as "R" movies are against the predominant religion, sorta).  But, that wierd guy down the street is kinda in the middle somewhere, you're not trick or treating, really, plus it's scary enough the girls can pretend to be scared and snuggle up to their boyfriends, free, gets you out from under parent's watchful gazes...

Ah. Get it now.
You're not charging. ;)

Is your haunt open for one night only, or the whole Halloween weekend then?

Random numbers.

Treat/start/leftover
Chocolate/210/1
Soda/156/36 *
Chips/90/0
Pixie Sticks/200/46 *

We always plan for ballpark 600 kids on Halloween.  This treat selection was based on last year's numbers, but last year was skewed by how Kyle put out the treats....and looks like he did a little skewing again.

The 36 remaining soda and 46 remaining pixie sticks (there were 50 remaining before the last group come through, I opened the case...) are remaining specifically because he was not putting them out, instead getting rid of the rest of the chocolate towards the end of the night.  (Ok, the soda was forgotten about as that case wasn't with the rest of the stash at the beginning)

Don't know why he was hoarding the pixie sticks.

So, what can I really take from the numbers?

Soda that was put out went swift.  Last year's chip numbers were indeed an abberation and we need to buy more.  Hard to tell with the pixie sticks since the last case wasn't opened.

I'm always showing my wife Unorthodox Halloween pictures.

She insisted I show you her idea of the scariest Halloween picture.

Nice Pose n Stay model there.  They either took the time to modify the lumbar or got one of the faulty models, but I'm guessing the former as there's been some touchup painting done to it as well.

The sea... vast, mysterious... and full of wealth! And the nations of Planet send their trade across it without a thought. Well, the sea doesn't care about them, so it lets them pass. But we can give the sea a little hand in teaching the landlubbers a lesson in humility.
