Skunk and I crossed paths again this morning.  This still dark while I'm heading to work phase makes that all the more likely.  We seem to have an understanding of one another though, and it just looked up at me and went back to eating the bugs, my part I just calmly walked by.  At least it doesn't threaten the spray anymore. 


So we've had hail, rain, and drizzle for the last couple days.  All the humidity that brings has brought on the mildew on the pumpkins.  Got a few dry days before more scattered showers come in, so gotta see what we can do about the mildew.  I'd like to squeeze at least 2 more weeks out of these plants before they go.  Preferably 3.  Pencilling in 9/20-9/21 for harvesting, which would let us sell surplus pumpkins 9/23-9/26 before our vacation. 

The field corn is tassseling, and topping out at right around 10-11'.  Not the 14' monsters, but given conditions this year, it's not bad.  Comparing to my raven grass, it's thicker stalk has certain appeal.  We'll probably use the rest of the seed, but if all my raven grass starts hold up well, a year or two from now, this corn will really be superfluous.  As it stands, it's hard to tell if I'm going to have enough corn or I'm going to need to go after reed grass this year.  Prefer not to.

I bet you haven't posted at ACS in years, so not really, but mocking is just a bad idea.  Doesn't get you laid or paid, and in troll/hack-speak, you'd just be daring them.

I don't know, buying up all domains I've linked to that have gone dead is pretty desparate.  (halloween sites don't tend to have a very long shelf life, as most people are 5 years or less in the hobby.)

Anyway, start the day with a positive.

Sure, it's still 70 degrees out in the wee hours of the morning, but it FELT different today.  The air is changing.  It's not colder, really, there's just a different FEELING to fall air than there is to the other seasons. 

And now here at work, that SMELL is in the air as well.  Probably someone running a harvester in one of the nearby fields.  Fall is on the way.

So between the drought and the skunk, are your slugs under control?

Oh yeah, once the skunk started coming back around, both the slugs and the squash bugs went bye-bye.  Or at least to non-problem levels. 

Drought in Utah is a little different than your normal definitions.  It's mostly based on reservoir levels.  A little rain, while it temporarily stops my water problems extremely locally, it doesn't help the drought condition.  At present, I believe it would take 2-3 years of normal snowfall to recover the reservoirs.  (now, how they got to this point in the first place is a lesson in mismanagement in some cases)
