Anyhow.  The whole animated fence idea isn't going to work.  I had a feeling that was going to be the case all along, but confirmed it last night.  Too much weight, I'll have to flip the axis and counterweight the thing, but that's going to have to wait till next year.

The good news is flipping/counterweighting will let me use real pumpkins on it.  In fact, if I just use 2 pumpkins with the motor in the middle, they should counterweight each other yielding little/no load on the motor.  It's obvious and I should have seen it originally.  Might try it out with one of the new motors, I have most of the parts.

Wiggles has emerged as a 4th instar.  This is the classic eating machine most people think of when you think caterpillar.  At the upper end here, should be molting into the final caterpillar stage soon. 



Chompy taught me something.  Caterpillars can JUMP.  Now, I've had them do all kids of things:  curl into ball, fling down on silk, spit goo, etc when I try to move them onto their new leaf.  Chompy, He JUMPED!  Curled, and flick!  6" bounds at a time.  Almost flew off the table.

Pretty big hail storm is dumping on us.  That's not going to be good for the pumpkins...

Had the kids help me build a butterfly cage...I don't thing there's a square angle in it.

Takes a heck of a lot more than one storm to end a drought.  The trouble is our reservoirs are practically empty.
