hello big old fan of smax here

i would like some help in understanding how to download a patch or some thing that makes the smax game harder and funner to play.
likw should i un instal and reinstal game, before i do that since i dont know what im using any more

Don't bother uninstalling your existing game, just ignore it.  Install a brand new game in a different directory.  You can pick a customized installation directory with whatever installer, like GOG's version for instance.

Then you put your mod or patch stuff on top of that installation.

how would i install a new dierectory, i use gog for alpha centURI. IT JUST SAYS PLAY WHEN I WENT IN TO THE GOG  WEBSITE

Well I always install my games from the standalone version, not from the GOG Galaxy version.  The file is called setup_sid_meiers_alpha_centauri_2.0.2.23.exe  It's a straightforward desktop style installer and there's an option to customize your installation directory.

i just deleted it and reinstalled it. .. i was used to using yitzi patch, has there been any better patches over the yrs, . i liked it but thought the ai still could use some work. . .

i have tried to install thinkers mod, but when i do the version number thing it just says i have regular game installed.
i dont know what i am over looking or not doing right.  i unzipped his 2.6  files into my gog folder. but that didnt seem to makle a difference.. alsdo i dont know what he means by change the thinker ini file. i have also tried to dowload the entire thinker mod folder with all its version and that didnt seem to make a diff.

if any one could help me understand it better id be gratefull. i was able to install the ai growth mod easy. so i sure i understand the basics

Did you start the game from terranx_mod.exe? This sort of issue has cropped up before and usually it's because somebody clicked a shortcut which points to unpatched terranx.exe. If neither Ctrl+F4 or Alt+T displays Thinker version, you most likely started the game from unpatched binary. The mod will only start when using terranx_mod.exe.
