Elon Musk Announces $10 Billion Space Internet Venture, Wants Internet On Mars

Elon Musk is planning to build a Space Internet platform that will deliver cheap, reliable, and scaleable internet services to people all over the world. The SpaceX founders mission doesn’t stop there. Musk wants to spend $10 billion on the program so it can expand all the way from Earth to Mars.

News of the Space Internet program arrives just one day after Musk announced a five-mile Hyperloop test track is in development.

According to Elon Musk, the new internet platform would provide global internet without terrestrial wires. He notes: “The speed of light is 40 percent faster in the vacuum of space than it is for fiber.”

The Musk plan for space-based internet connections focused on placing satellites in low orbit so they can serve sparsely population areas.

Speaking of his lofty plans for man to land on Mars, Musk says, “It will be important for Mars to have a global communications network as well. I think this needs to be done, and I don’t see anyone else doing it.”

Musk doesn’t expect the program to launch overnight, claiming that it will take at least five years to get off the ground.

While SpaceX might spearhead this project, for the short-term the company is focused on its Falcon 9 rockets and Dragon cargo capsules. SpaceX is operating on a NASA contract worth upwards of $1.5 billion.

If anyone can pull off a massive space internet project that expands all the way to Mars, it’s Elon Musk and his SpaceX team of engineers.

Preliminary analysis indicates that our rivals have developed a safe and reliable method to simulate conditions existing on the interior of a stellar mass. The fabrication and transmutation of materials possible in such an environment guarantees significant industrial and military applications.
