We could always use more Raku - alas, our grill setup has devolved to charcoal, and while you'd think that'd taste better, I'm not used to it and it's not as good at low-slow cooking, and my last two sets of Chicken Racku have been a bit phail.

Fun Fact, related:  My little brother, AKA Buster's Daddy, has often taken a few legs of raku home for his wife, Buster's Maw - I'm pretty sure she HAS had some before, but also pretty sure not that way...

Just back from kat supper.  Nothing unusual to report; I petted all three, and Boy Liver crouched behind the pecan tree uphill, hoping to chase Goblin later.

Cloud and Hershey have little trouble with that - they just don't run from him.  I wish she'd hit on that trick with Moses...

So my voice really carries IRL, and after lunch I saw Hershey walking up the hill, clearly with his hopes up from hearing me inside talking to Momma.

-I had a long spell of not feeling like it a couple years ago put a stop to Kat Lunch.

But what the heck, I just lunched them on a dreary wet day when I wasn't that busy.  He was vocalizing audible meows when I opened the door, something he rarely does, all three -of "the real cats" I say to tease River- showed and cleaned the plate shortly, all three got petted.  A good time was had by all.

How have I gone a decade without mentioning this?

The Official Sound Track of this thread is the first season Space: 1999 theme - it's what I whistle when I'm walking downhill to feed the cats and the moon is in the sky at sunset. ;nod

I seem to be in a precarious position between control and chaos in my life these days.  A big part of that is a new tuxedo kitten in our home.

It was born under our neighbor's deck, but comes over here to look at our cats through the glass. So we started feeding it in anticipation of trapping it. About 15 years ago we had a litter of kittens born under our deck. Our county had a catch/spay/vaccinate /crop an ear/release program. Catch the cat, take it to the shelter, they treat them free of charge and we picked them up and put them back. (In the case of young kittens they get adopted out. Well, we kept one of them as a housecat/ Still have her.) We have to agree to feed them. But having a fixed cat in the territory keeps other cats out and the population under control. The fixed/vaccinated cats live longer.

This time it was a litter of one or two, but only one hung around. My wife started recruiting people to take it. Not really having any luck. When the kitten started playing patty-cake with our formerly wild kitten (caught it 15 years ago next month), I knew
it was coming indoors as soon as it got cold, or else my wife's lower lip would droop so low she would risk tripping over it. So we had a talk and I got the box trap out. caught it after a few hours.

Took it to our vet, passed the Feline leukemia test. They bathed it, treated for ear mites and other parasites, trimmed the claws, gave it the first round of vaccinations. They said it was a great kitty, didn't bite or hiss the how time. Brought it home and started socializing it. At this point it has played with our dog and all three cats. Took well to the litter box. It loves digging.
Today it started getting on my wife's lap to be petted and purr and be fed. She had been playing with it with a laser pointer and a toy that is sort of a fishing rod with a plush caterpillar on the end of the line.

That's the fun part. More work with food and litter, and closing off parts of the house. Finding the kitten's hiding spots. Picking up stuff it knocks over. Cleaning up after our other cats because they are nervous about having an intruder, and worried that I am going to catch them and take them to the vet for monthly shots because the bedrooms are closed off and they have the most hiding places for cats. They are not wrong. They are due to go tomorrow.

We are going to PA this week, return the beginning of next month. The kitten will be staying with a niece. If it socializes well with her two cats, she will likely keep it. She had a tuxedo cat all of her childhood. Unless my wife decides it's a good buddy for Chester. He is the polydactyl Pixie Bob I've spoken of before.

HA!

The grandnephew drops in from time to time, and while he is stronger than the cat, he can't climb or reach above 3 feet. The kitten seems to have no such vertical limit on mischief.

I always enjoy your nomenclature, Buncle.

Until now the battle had been proceeding smoothly. The enemy was outflanked and had been driven from the reactor housing, but against the reactor itself the matter canons were strangely ineffective. Rounds simply-stopped-in mid air.
