A simple question. Is it possible to make the space available for base names larger?
Not the number of bases but the length of the name itself? Thanks.

Most things are theoretically possible, but this would probably be a somewhat tricky one to pull off, so unless there's significant demand for it it's not likely to happen.

No; usually, anything that increases the number of possible values data can take will be on the harder side.
