Spiral in the sky spotted over Pennsylvania


(WHTM) — A mysterious white spiral appeared over central Pennsylvania on Tuesday night.

Viewers flooded the abc27 News phone lines reporting sightings above Dauphin, Lancaster and Schuylkill counties.

Many were looking upward expecting the Perseid meteor shower. Instead they were welcomed by a glowing unidentified object. One person described it was the “shape of a bone.”

While abc27 News hasn’t confirmed the origin of the light, this phenomenon typically occurs during rocket launches. A United Launch Alliance Vulcan rocket launched from the United States Space Force at Cape Canaveral, Florida, before 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials say this spiral light likely comes from a frozen plume of fuel from a rocket’s exhaust, which reflects the sunlight and appears to spin in the atmosphere.
