Title: Uno's oddball music thread
Post by: Unorthodox on November 08, 2012, 08:19:11 pm
Just picked up Beethoven's last night: The complete narrated version.

Why can't THAT tour come here, instead of the christmas crap?

A lotta functionality plug-ins won't be reinstalled before tomorrow.  Sorry.  You're not more annoyed than I am.

I think/hope maybe the auto-embeds will restore with the plug-in.

At least I can play them on YouTube at the links.  I'm listening to it as I type.  Interesting.

TSO is among my favorites.

Even the Christmas crap is decent.

Dunno.  The electric guitar Beethoven wasn't really doing it for me.

And, of course, Sarah Brightman is also a favorite.  (don't worry, no ripping out eyes in these videos, I promise)

I get that.  90% of this album is actually original songs though.  VERY BIZAAR original songs.

Listening now.  So far, so good.

You want some weird weird versions of classical music? How about 80s synthpop/krautrock covers of classics (which just winds up sounding very chiptune-y).

Radio is playing Carmen, so I didn't bother looking into my collection today.

In case you hadn't already guessed, classical, opera, and musicals are going to be a common theme.

Unless I'm doing a build...then it gets really wierd.

You'll hear no objection to those from me.  Listening now.

I only listen to underground classical music, like Friedrich Cerha, or Salvatore Sciarrino. I can't stand Beethoven, he's too mainstream for my tastes.

Just kidding, I love music, but I mostly listen to house music. Daft Punk, Cassius, a lot of French house, that's my favorite. And the space disco influence helps me with SciFi binging.

Edit: I don't know why I quoted you, because my post wound up being unrelated. Unquoted.

I totally get the whole binging thing.

When I'm doing a build it can get pretty odd around here.  The neighbors start avoiding the garage.

But, Trevor (by far the most mainstream thing I ever built) was made almost exclusively to Dr Horrible.  (just put the movie on my ipod and left it on loop, the soundtrack is not as good as the movie audio)

I've been listening incessantly to Waves. I don't know how you guys enjoy French house, but this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6aG74XgwjA#) and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRzYKkwzIMw#) are some great funky sampling. Especially Troobadoor. If you listen to the whole thing (I understand some of you might hate house) you can hear different chops and pitches of the same sample. The whole thing sounds great in my opinion. There's also this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uk9CFn5b7I#) which has been a favorite of mine for a long time, and playing Discovery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dkik97YkiE0#) always gets me in the mood for Science Fiction. Actually for the longest time I'd play Discovery on loop alongside SMAC.

Aside from working with computers and doing programming, I always wanted to be a dj  :danc:
