Astronomer witnesses two meteors hit the moon

(FOX40.COM) — An astronomer witnessed two bright meteors slamming into the moon on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, which were visible from Earth for a split second.

According to Space.com, Japanese astronomer Daichi Fujii, curator of the Hiratsuka City Museum, recorded the impacts using cameras aimed at the moon’s nightside.

The October collision took place around 3:30 a.m. PST, and the November collision took place around 3:49 a.m. PST.

Both impacts came before the Southern Taurid meteor shower that peaked on Tuesday, and the Northern Taurid meteor shower that takes place on Sunday.

Space.com said it has not been confirmed whether the collisions originated from the Taurids or were sporadic meteors.

Fujii took video recording and posted it to his X account (https://x.com/dfuji1/status/1984025968437293284) where it has thousands of views.
